Here's box-beam guardrail at the northern terminus of NY 174:

As an added bonus, many bridges in NY are the same shade of green

I originally wanted to make this challenge "post something your state contributed to road design", but I don't know if box-beam guardrail was invented in New York, Wyoming, or even somewhere else!

So THAT'S what those guardrails are called. Thanks  :bigass:

NYSDOT has used them since at least June 12th, 1975.  See section 10.5.7.1 on page 18 of this PDF.

Except in New York, they're called guiderails, not guardrails.


Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

Mile high is too easy, so I'll go only over 2 miles.
