Title: cool solariums
Post by: danthecatrafficlightfan on March 07, 2019, 03:27:39 PM
if you ever seen a large sloping glass structure on the side of a building that looks like a building but it's made of glass and has a raised roof it's a solarium these are becoming harder and harder to find

here are a few cool examples though!

Hollister, CA Taco Bell

That link just shows a map of Hollister, CA.  Not useful.

The Arby's on US 61/US 67 north of I-44 in Kirkwood, MO (https://goo.gl/maps/kU8y1ZjqM312) may still have one with a retractable fabric cover.

Rax in Joliet, IL has one. (https://goo.gl/maps/zGV4M7yKz8R2)

The Shell Station on US 54/IL 106 in Pittsfield, IL (https://goo.gl/maps/MuDyHt79jdT2) (which used to have a Taco Johns, has one.

These were common on older Wendy’s. I think a few around here still have them. A closed one in Petersburg certainly does.

Edit: found it. It’s now a car lot.

That one looks more like an old Hardees to me, particularly when compared to the Hardees in Bartonville, IL. (https://goo.gl/maps/2nx65yc9De52)

The Fazoli's in Alton, IL may have one. (https://goo.gl/maps/rL8NfytCzeF2)  There may also be one on the Fazoli's in Bridgeton, MO (https://goo.gl/maps/12hxryU5Erx) (can't tell if the top part is a different type of glass or non-transparent).

The Fazoli's in Marion, IL (https://goo.gl/maps/D13XMVnzzts) has one with awnings added on top.

Hmm. You may well be right. There's an active Hardee's that has one...

...as does a Wendy's across the street, though its solarium has brick sides.

The Burger King at 110 Ed Noble Parkway (https://www.google.com/maps/@35.2173546,-97.4898696,3a,24.9y,248.21h,92.4t/data=!3m5!1e1!3m3!1sgJMZHVaKmUiEbhWAkHaDYA!2e0!6s%2F%2Fgeo0.ggpht.com%2Fcbk%3Fpanoid%3DgJMZHVaKmUiEbhWAkHaDYA%26output%3Dthumbnail%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26thumb%3D2%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D78.68997%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100) in Norman had solarium-type windows, but you couldn't really "go in" the solarium. The tables along that wall were kind of half under the solarium windows, half under the ceiling. (I know this BK well–it was my first job, and I even managed it for a few months.)

The Norman Wendy's (https://www.google.com/maps/@35.2184823,-97.469439,3a,49y,198.14h,89.39t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sdAO17Y7p7FeIjZXaOSyizQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656) has two solaria.

This building appears to be a former fast food outlet with a solarium.  My guess is it's a former Rax, but I can't confirm it.
