Changing birth date
« on: March 10, 2023, 01:34:45 PM »

Good afternoon!

I'm curious if anybody else has tried to change their date of birth recently; I'm trying to, but when I hit "submit", it defaults to "0001 01 01", in YYYY MM DD format. I am entering "2023 02 23". Is this something on my end, or is this an issue under the hood?

It's fixed in the newer version of the forum software. Until it's updated here, though, you can send a PM to the administrator Alex, who can add in your birthdate directly in the database for you.

I'll probably do this sometime soon then! Thanks!

This issue should now be fixed.

Adjust your birthday date away.  :sombrero:

If you want to change your birth date, you're going to need a DeLorean.

If you want to change your birth date, you're going to need a DeLorean.

... but it requires a nuclear reaction to generate the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity you'll need.

"jiggawatts"

it still irks me that they couldn't be bothered to make sure they were pronouncing "giga" correctly, how many years later..?

Either pronunciation of "giga-" is correct. Which is more common has varied over the years. The hard "g" became more common in the 1990s once PCs actually started to approach the 1 GB memory or storage capacity (consider in the 1980s how 640 KB was a lot of RAM, and in 1985 the 1.44 MB floppy disk didn’t exist yet). There is a line of thought that the hard "g" pronunciation became more common because of concern that "jigabyte" sounds too much like the racially offensive term "jigaboo."

(Edited to fix a typo. I meant jigabyte and typed jigawatt because I was thinking about the movie.)

I always wondered about the abhorrent genetic fusion that "Mister Fusion" almost caused.  Which would have done more than change his birth date, I'm sure.
