US 89

I had my first severe thunderstorm warning of the year in Salt Lake yesterday. Although I think most of the populated parts of Utah got away without much damage, several wind gusts above 60 mph were observed across northern Utah. A site in the Dugway Proving Ground out in the west desert even recorded a gust to 92 mph.

Some thunderstorms Friday and yesterday, but today is truly beautiful, with temps near 60 degrees, brilliant sunshine, deep blue sky, and a light breeze. The weather I've been dreaming about since what, November?

RGT, I wouldn't want you to have 6 consecutive posts here, so I'll hop in and say that I went out for a walk this beautiful (albeit a bit muggy) evening around 9 PM and it was still almost fully light out! That only lasts a few weeks, so enjoy it while it lasts.

Today was the first day this year temps climbed in to the 90s. It was sunny earlier today but is now starting to cloud up.

Had some severe thunderstorms in the evening yesterday in Salt Lake, which didn't produce much in the way of rain or lightning but did give us a hell of a lot of wind. Then we had a few showers this morning (again, more wind than rain) but missed out on the big storms today, which largely stayed to our northwest and southeast. (And big storms they were: the Monticello-Blanding corridor on US 191 had a supercell thunderstorm with golf ball size hail and 90 mph winds. That's something you rarely if ever see west of the Rockies.)

Anyway, we finally had a few hours of decent rain this evening. More rain is expected for tomorrow and Monday - by the time this storm cycle is over, we will have gotten more rain in one weekend than in the previous two months.

High of 73F today in Fresno.  That's 19F cooler than the June normal and very much welcome.

Under a Flash Flood Watch for when the remnants of T.C Cristobal arrive in a couple days, and that will drop temps back in to the 70s (for a single day). Its been sunny and in the low 90s for the past couple days.

Getting some light snow this afternoon at my house at 6500' at Tahoe.  Not really "much welcome" at this time of year.  The ground is too warm for it to stick at this elevation but if it moves far enough south to the >8000' elevation highway passes, Carson Pass on CA 88 etc., there could be some chain requirements overnight.

Today, Tuesday 6/9: hot. Very hot. In fact, this may turn out to be the hottest day I have ever experienced. Today's forecast high is in the 98 to 105 range, with feels like 110-120. 105 is the record high for the state of Connecticut (set in '95, before I was born), and I've never lived anywhere hotter, so today may be my personal high temperature record.

Your profile location says Corsicana, TX, but you must be referring to Connecticut?

Yes, I'm in Corsicana right now. I'm just saying, because 105 is the record high for the state of Connecticut (before I was born), and having lived there *most* of my life, I've likely never experienced a day so hot before.

I see. Gotcha. Yeah, I imagine it probably gets that hot in central Texas much more often.

Anyway, we finally had a few hours of decent rain this evening. More rain is expected for tomorrow and Monday - by the time this storm cycle is over, we will have gotten more rain in one weekend than in the previous two months.

Indeed, we did get enough rain to match April and May combined. (usually our two wettest months!) Sunday morning we had dime size hail, followed by one of the stronger squall lines I’ve seen in Utah - 30 minutes of heavy rain, lightning, and winds to at least 50 mph. NWS even issued a flood advisory for most of the Wasatch Front. From then on through Monday, we had occasional showers with rain and small hail.

The storm also brought in some impressively cold air for June. Yesterday’s high in Salt Lake was 55, a record low for the day. We fell down to 42 last night and some of the higher mountain valleys even experienced a hard freeze. But from here on out it’s supposed to warm back up, breaking 90 in SLC on Friday before our next chance at a storm this weekend.
