Title: I-40 in Memphis/West Memphis prior to 1973

The I-40 Mississippi River bridge wasn't built until 1973. Was I-40 signed along I-55 before the bridge was built? Was the 40/55 overlap dual signed or did I-40 "end" at I-55?
