Hello! I launched a roadgeek website a year ago, mostly related to roads in Arizona, but also featuring stuff from neighboring states occassionally. I was mostly inspired by the Arizona Roads website when I first came up with the idea of this, so my website provides a bunch of more up-to-date information regarding highways in Arizona as well as a series of pages dedicated to showcasing errors or other fails on signage. There is a special pages section on the site that I use for documenting button copy signs that I find throughout the country, as well as various roadgeek topic pages such as info about Arizona welcome signs, Arizona traffic signals, my license plate collection, a license plate generator, and images of progress on the Broadway Curve Project on I-10! I also have an image gallery to show off some of my pictures from places in Arizona and other surrounding states that I have visited.
If anyone is interested in seeing such a site, you can check it out here: roads.aznate.tech (http://roads.aznate.tech)
Noticed that Arizona Roads was listed as an inspiration, that's what I used to read when I lived in the state also. Good to see another directory site has emerged for Arizona.
Nice to see another road web site. *Bookmarked*
Thanks for the kind words. I think I will also use this thread as an update log, so here are the big changes I made last night:
- Added a proper contact form
- Updated info on the welcome signs page about why US 191 has no welcome sign.
- Finally added Arizona gallery pages for AZ 264, AZ 277, AZ 377, US 64, US 160, and US 191.
- Added Utah gallery pages for US 191, UT 162, and UT 313.
- Added Colorado gallery pages for CO 41 and US 160.
- Added New Mexico gallery pages for I-25, I-40, NM 333, NM 466, US 64, US 64 Business, US 160, US 491, and US 550.
- Added random roads gallery pictures for Albuquerque, Farmington, and Santa Fe, NM.
Here are the latest major site updates since the last post I made:
- Updated info to reflect the SR 24 extension fully opening today, as well as added pictures of the new stretch of highway
- Added a picture of probably the last remaining inverted Loop 303 shields in the wild
- Added new pictures to the Loop 303 slideshow
- Updated info and imagery of the Arizona welcome signs on US 70, US 180, SR 264, SR 93X, and SR 95
I actually found one of those inverted AZ 303 shields at an estate sale in New Jersey if all places:

The original Arizona Roads is one of my favorite roadgeek sites, so I like that it inspired you to do this one. Great work!

That's really cool! I wonder how that ended up there.

Some more website updates since last time:
- Updated info for Loop 303 about future construction projects to improve and extend the freeway
- Removed the Arizona Timeline of Signs page due to inaccurate information regarding years
- Redesigned header and navigation bar and made a more consistent color scheme
- Made the width of the button copy signs and Broadway Curve Project pages consistent with the rest of the website along with other small consistency tweaks across the website
it was interesting to see, Thank you for sharing!
No problem, glad you like the site!
Here's the list of website changes I've made since my last post:
- Created a new page about Arizona's Scenic Roads
- I was finally able to get my own picture of the previously mentioned inverted Loop 303 shields and replaced the Google Maps screenshot with it
(https://roads.aznate.tech/assets/highways/az303/20220910_201955240_iOS.jpg)
- Added some new pictures of Loop 303 to the slideshow
- Updated info and added pictures of the Northern Parkway
- Added new pictures of the Broadway Curve construction project
- Moved my website onto my Dell Optiplex to self host it and finally got SSL certificates for the website
- Made a new, custom 404 page
- Created a status page (http://status.aznate.tech) for the website, so you can see details if the site goes down for whatever reason
Here's another list of site updates since my last post:
- Added new pictures of US 60, 70, 180, 191 and SR 61, 75, 78, 260, and 273 (273 pics might be useful to some, since both times Google Street View has tried to fully travel it, the road has been closed :-D)
- Added some pictures of the "Sign Salad" in Flagstaff to the US 180 page
- Added new pictures to Goofs & Fails page 7 & 8 and the New Mexico section of the special goofs
- Added new welcome sign pictures for US 70, SR 78, and US 180
- Added new pictures for the Gila-Pinal & White Mountain Scenic Roads on the scenic roads page
- Added gallery pages for US 70, SR 61, 75, 78, 303, Northern Pkwy, and new pictures for the Flagstaff random roads gallery
- Added New Mexico gallery pages for NM 78 and US 180
- Updated Loop 202 info after the Lindsay Rd interchange opening
Do we even have a general thread regarding roads for which we individually have photos but the Google Car does not?
Not sure. I wouldn't really know in the relatively short time I've been on the forum, but I haven't seen one.
Didn't know parts of the state used yellow signal heads.

It would probably be a good one to start and would also provide a useful resource for people.

I created one in the general board, didn't seem to garner much interest.
That sucks, I thought it was a pretty interesting and useful idea.
Also, here's some more website updates from today:
Added new images to goofs page 8 and a new page 9. ADOT's typically pretty good with signage I think, but this one's got a lot of issues being on the freeway...
- Replaced and added new button copy sign pictures.
- Added an image to the Broadway Curve Project page.
- Added Switzerland to the license plate generator.
More site updates:
- Created a goofs & fails map (https://roads.aznate.tech/goofs-fails) that will replace eventually replace the old pages if feedback is positive. Hoping that the map will add a better sense of location to the images. (Old pages are still accessible for now from the legacy page (https://roads.aznate.tech/goofs-legacy) hub.)
- Converted the button copy signs (https://roads.aznate.tech/bcopy) page to an accordion format, organized by roads to make it easier to navigate hopefully.
- Finally added now year old pictures of button copy from I-19 northbound.
- Added new pictures to the Loop 101 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az101) slideshow.
I don't think I've ever seen someone do a roadgeek image site by putting pins on a map before. And even uses OSM as the base map, so there's less risk of the API breaking at some point over the years. That's super cool. Well done.
Thanks!

- Added a new page for the defunct, proposed State Route 110 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az110)
Whoops, power went out today right after I left for a SE Arizona trip, so the website will be down until Saturday afternoon probably since I can't do anything about it until I get back. After that's fixed, expect a bunch of new pictures of southeastern Arizona highways.
The website is back online, along with the southeastern AZ road trip additions + some other updates to the website tonight:

I'm a big fan of the map format for the goofs/fails page, and I'm really enjoying your work. Is there any way to make the map not zoom in when you click on one of the points, though?
No, there isn't a way to toggle the zoom-in for the map points. I tested adding that with the idea that it would make it easier to see the exact location of the point, but I think it makes the experience more annoying than I intended. I've been thinking about removing the auto zoom-in for a bit and I'll probably go ahead with that now, thanks for the feedback!
Many new website updates since March 19th:
- Added information about former SR 76 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az76/) thanks to 707's thread on the route here (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=33147).
- Added/updated information about SR 288 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az288/), SR 50 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az50/), SR 63 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az63/), SR 89L (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az89l/), SR 93 & 93A (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az93/), SR 110 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az110/), SR 117 & 417 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az101/), SR 216, 217, 218, & 220 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az202/), SR 517 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az303/), added new pages for SR 489 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az489/), SR 589 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az589/), SR 810 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az810/), SR 910 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az910/), SR 982 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az982/), SR 983 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az983/), and the proposed Sonoran Corridor (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/sonoran/).

- Implemented OpenStreetMap Americana theme for the Goofs & Fails map that I found in this forum thread (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=30951.0). I would like to know what people think of this change over the original map and whether it should stay or not.
- Added pictures of I-19 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/i19/), SR 84 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az84/), and SR 387 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az387/).

Nice that AZ recognizes former US 80.
There was one US 80 Historic shield on US 60 west of Florence Junction that I observed yesterday. This was the one on eastbound US 60 approaching Florence Junction:
https://flic.kr/p/2owArim
I do remember US 66 shields in 2000 in many cities it served. However, am glad US 80 isn't forgotten nor is parts of US 99 in CA as some brown historic shields in the Imperial Valley where it once ran.
There is a fair assortment of Historic US 89A along AZ 89A.

Interesting that there's a Historic US 80 sign, but not one for US 89. There's also a sign for Historic US 60/70/80/89 in front of the decayed shell of the old Buckhorn Baths complex at Main St. and Recker Rd. in Mesa.
I just discovered your site. I noticed the overhead signs on I-19 and I-10 were replaced as well; it's been within the past six weeks. There's a few other new panels along I-19 south of Green Valley, replacing the button copy signs with new versions and maintaining the metric units. I think the advance southbound panel for Tumacacori-Carmen is one of the new panels I noticed yesterday.

Sad to see old button copy signs get replaced, but it's nice that they're keeping metric.

Nice that AZ recognizes former US 80.
Speaking of former US 80, coincidentally I drove down a bit of it on Saturday to the Gillespie Dam Bridge and got some pictures that are now up on my website.
https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/us80/
Also, I got some more Broadway Curve (https://roads.aznate.tech/special/broadway-curve/) pictures, 2 new Goofs & Fails (https://roads.aznate.tech/goofs-fails/) pictures, and I updated some inaccurate SR 76 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az76/) info today.
New website updates since my last post:
- Added new pictures of SR 69 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az69), SR 89 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az89), SR 89A (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az89a), SR 96 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az96), SR 97 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az97), Loop 101 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az101), SR 169 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az169), Loop 303 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az303), and Interstate 17 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/i17).
- Added 7 new points to the Goofs & Fails Map (https://roads.aznate.tech/goofs-fails/).
- Added new pictures to the Scenic Roads (https://roads.aznate.tech/special/scenic-roads/) page for the Mingus Mountain Scenic Road & Jerome, Clarkdale, Cottonwood Historic Road.
- Replaced the image gallery (https://roads.aznate.tech/gallery/) with one that is more feature-rich and hopefully easier to use.
- Added a new picture to the Button Copy Signs (https://roads.aznate.tech/bcopy/) page, in the Other Roads category.
More site updates today:
- Added new pictures of I-10 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/i10/), SR 83 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az83/), and SR 90 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/az90/).
- Added a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfeVMEqmzcM) of the Superstition Freeway segment of US 60 (https://roads.aznate.tech/highways/us60/).
- Added many new pictures to the Goofs & Fails Map (https://roads.aznate.tech/goofs-fails/) thanks to NMDOT.
- Added pictures of New Mexico I-10, I-25, and Las Cruces to the image gallery (https://roads.aznate.tech/gallery/).
- Surprising to me at least, I found a button copy sign on I-10 in New Mexico, so that's on the Button Copy Signs (https://roads.aznate.tech/bcopy/) page now.
- Updated the welcome sign (https://roads.aznate.tech/special/welcome-signs/) picture for I-10 entering from New Mexico with one of my own.
- Street View imagery finally got updated on AZ 61 and Mohave County 91, so the welcome signs (https://roads.aznate.tech/special/welcome-signs/) on those highways have finally been added to the map.
Noticed your goofs and fails section, in area around Safford.
Background on advance "TO East I-10" signage: Was installed in 2017 after I-10 traffic was diverted probably a dozen times to US 70 due to problematic orchard dust near San Simon on I-10.
It's not a goof; in this application, advance guide signage is appropriate. No need for 40,000 I-10 bound trucks to end up in the mine because they happened to see other trucks (or mine commuters) making the turn to 191 North.
https://goo.gl/maps/U7azRVaphMM2kehf6
Notice the reassurance marker for US 70 is located after the intersection, as it should be.
I do agree, the signage for I-10 is appropriate, my point was that it felt like US 70 should've been signed together with the I-10 and US 191 directional signage. Looking at it now and at the history of the intersection signage, I think this shouldn't be on the goofs & fails map, so I'll remove it, thanks for letting me know about it.

I see what you're saying. The TO I-10 marker should really have a US 70 shield mounted on the same post in advance of the intersection. I think mostly got hung up on the "reassurance" verbiage when i wrote my original reply.
That's awesome that you're sort of picking up where Alan left off. Your site has a ton of cool features that weren't available, or at least weren't easy to execute, back when his was active.
