FLAVORTOWN

Quote from: storm2k on March 01, 2025, 11:28:18 AMHere's a question. Is NJDOT starting to move away from the old text only "No Turns" sign to indicate that you can only go straight thru an intersection? This is 202-206 at Hills Drive in Pluckemin, and a little further up 202-206 at River Rd. Both now have both R3-1 and R3-18 signs to indicate no right, left, or u-turns. The text based No Turns sign is still a standard in the current 11th edition MUTCD (it's R3-3) and both of these intersections had standard No Turns signs until the last couple of years when they were replaced. Was curious if NJDOT is changing this statewide or something.

I personally like the change, since it's visual and easy to understand.

Wonder if NJDOT made other sign design changes recently, I've noticed that the street name sign attached to the traffic poles now have the road suffix written on the bottom and not on the top anymore.

Is  NJ 41 north of NJ 168 through Barrington, Haddon Heights, and Cherry Hill still considered a temporary route?

I noticed that it's still county maintained from Black Horse Pike to Route 70, and was wondering if NJDOT still has plans to build the permanent alignment even though NJDOT has no intentions to really complete any new roads statewide.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Some newer route signage (white circle w/o the black square) negates the "TEMP" banner for NJ 41, although that could be more of an oversight than a change to 41's forever-temporary status.

NJDOT finalized that NJ 41 uses CR 573 (see the straight-line diagrams), but the road is still county-maintained. Another question is whether CR 573 will be deleted. CR 573 no longer exists in the straight-line diagrams, but recent signs still read CR 573.

It's a county road, so if the county wants to sign it 573, I guess it'll live on for them. NJ 165 is another question mark.

Why is Ocean City on this particular road sign along Route 168 at the Turnpike?

The lower level employee creating the sign who's minorly related to someone important probably goes to Ocean City on vacation every year.  Boss yells at him to knock their shit off saying they don't need 4 cities on a sign on the Black Horse Pike, and the lower level employee yells back saying more people vacation in Ocean City than Atlantic City.  The boss probably had a migraine dealing with a bunch of higher priorities and says whatever the fuck you want you got, signed off on it and sent it along to the print shop.

This makes sense if lots of tourists go to Ocean City but don't know it's right next to Atlantic City, and lots of tourists go to Atlantic City but don't know it's right next to Ocean City.

And Yonkers is next to New York City too. So what? You don't see the NYSTA listing Yonkers on mileage signs.

Grow up you immature being.  We used to have a user named Ethanman who was more mature than you on this forum, whom if you ask anyone here will tell you he was a thirteen year old troll who demonstrated child like mentality on here.

Also keep in mind that Black Horse Pike don't go directly to Ocean City.  So listing it is odd. Not upset that they done it just curious.

To me four destination signs I found interesting growing up in New Jersey as plenty of them were around.  There was one on route 9 in South Toms River that was removed when the Parkway Exit 80 ramp at CR 530 got redone that I'm kind of sad to see go.  It listed Beachwood, Bayville, Forked River, and Atlantic City on one sign. I thought that one was neat and that whoever spearheaded the Exit 80 project should have carbon copied it.

It was mostly a tongue-in-cheek reply as to how the inner workings at NJDOT probably allow some of this stuff to exist.

It's basically a rogue listing where nearly any shore town could have been listed as a 4th destination. A similar sign at a similar point on Rt. 42 - the main route to Ocean City, doesn't list Ocean City.

This sign has been here since at least 2008, so no telling how long this sign has existed, or if it's a replacement-in-kind for an older sign created by a long-departed employee of NJDOT.

This one is a four destination that must be one person considering Camden and Philadelphia as one city

Many once existed along US 130 and even NJ 70 westbound also featuring Camden and Philadelphia as one place.

Ocean City is a major tourist destination. It's akin to a Wildood more than an AC. Having it on mileage signs makes sense, a lot of traffic from the Philly region will be traveling down there. Shoobies love the shore, too.

Courtesy of East Coast Roads of another four destination signs further down the Pike.

This one lists all four popular beach destinations and no intermediate points.

Although nice as that part is Route 42 where a lot more Philly Beachgoers drive, makes you wonder what particular route combo they calculated the distances via.

I'm guessing this is what Jeff was referring to in an earlier post.
