I'm starting my planning for the Wilmington meet. I'm planning to head down just for the day, and on the way there I want to take a route that isn't just I-95/I-40, so I'm thinking about taking US 117 down from its north end. Any other route suggestions, or notable things I should look out for?

Olive Garden must be stopped.  I must stop them.

How about US 17 south from the Hampton Roads area?

Government would be tolerable if not for politicians and bureaucrats.

A lot of weaving/extra mileage on that one, especially if he's trying to just make it a day-trip.  As it is, it's about 230 miles from Petersburg to Wilmington just taking the straight 95/795/117/40 shot.  It's over 240 miles just taking 17 down from Portsmouth...plus having to find a way to Hampton Roads.  Remember, he's said in the past he hates 460.

A few options:

- US 301 to US 117
- VA/NC 35 to US 258
- Instead of US 258 for the above, continue on NC 35/NC 561/NC 305 to US 17
- Cut halfway between Emporia and Suffolk (say VA 35/US 58/US 258/NC 11) and pick up US 13 near Ahoskie and US 17 near Windsor
- Cut down to Greenville, NC and take NC 11/NC 241/NC 41 to I-40, or NC 11 to US 258 to Jacksonville

All intriguing options, Adam, thanks. I've been meaning to clinch VA/NC 35 for years now, and that would give me a reason to do it, but my most likely option is just 95-795-117, with a side trip to get NC 44 since I probably won't be back down that way before it becomes US 70.
