just happened across this blog while googling for something unrelated.  Lots of photos and information about large trucks, old and new.

I like them. My dad drives a truck on saturdays as a hobby. I used to go with him a lot.

I think trucking in the U.S. is much more adventurous than in Europe. Truckers are a bit seen like the old cowboys, driving all around the United States. In Europe, trucking is overregulated. A European trucker cannot drive more than 450 miles per day because of driving time limitations and low speed limits (50 - 55 mph), not to mention congestion.

I'd say I'm one, to a certain extent. I like pick-up trucks the most, wanting to buy one when I find a full time position. Also, I like the show Ice Road Truckers. The truckers are very funny.

Be well,

Anybody who wants a laugh having to do with trucking/lorrying needs to watch the Top Gear episode where the hosts all try their hand at it.
NJ Roads FTW!

(it seems like he was driving quite fast on a snow-covered road, probably I-80 in Wyoming).

It didn't help that he was hauling 3 full size trailers!  It looked like a bloody train!  Trains belong on the rails and not a highway!  :pan:

I think it was a turnpike double with a slightly higher front end of the second trailer. Triples have shorter trailers.

Ive been a big fan of semi's for all my life.

I'm also a fan of unconventional trucks; check out Hank's Truck Pictures. Some favorites:

http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/pix/trucks/martin_phippard/mixers/file0021.jpg - 7-axle cement mixer
http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/martin_phippard_trailers_07.html - 11-axle Michigan combinations
http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/james_oconnor.htm - Oz Road Train
http://www.hankstruckpictures.com/martin_phippard_droms.htm - Dromedaries

Generally, Martin Phippard's photos are the most strange-looking, if you're not from Michigan or Ontario.

If it was out west, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, etc. it may have been three standard trailers.  I worked for Roadway Express (large LTL trucking firm) in the late 80s and they talked about running triple 45' trailers out west!
