Quote from: ZLoth on November 19, 2024, 12:29:08 PMTrue.... I've only watched clips from both the Bob and Drew eras on YouTube, but haven't watched a full episode in years. However, since I'm now an adult, I can now understand that childhood question on why people got excited for a coffee maker or a toaster.

The coffee makers and toasters (called "small prizes" in TPIR parlance) are the ones that have suffered the most sponsor pull-back, to the point that I believe the small-prize-based games have been played noticeably less frequently in recent years. (Which, since the famous Plinko is a small-prize game, means that it tends to suck up all the oxygen in the small-prize space, exacerbating the problem of That's Too Much Plinko and not enough, I dunno, Master Key.)

It's mostly big-ticket items like cars that they can get sponsors for still. Grocery items are hit or miss.

I wonder what happens to those prizes.  If I wanted a car, I'd want to pick it, not get it based on what the show happened to get for cheap from their sponsors.

Can't decide on the correct thread, so I'll put this here by default. My brother sent it yesterday. Somehow seems appropriate that Ass Hill and Shitterton are right next to each other and are right at the bottom.

The URL for the Village of Lake George is lgvillage.org (or at least it is for email addresses).  I'm sure it means "Lake George Village", but I keep seeing it as "LG Village" and imagine a housing complex where every home uses LG appliances exclusively.

We've had K12 and P13 on this forum... are we going to get a U14 and a Z15 at some point?  And what happened to A10 and F11?  We need to fill out the pattern here!

Moon Phase and Libration, 2025
QuoteThe animation archived on this page shows the geocentric phase, libration, position angle of the axis, and apparent diameter of the Moon throughout the year 2025, at hourly intervals. Until the end of 2025, the initial Dial-A-Moon image will be the frame from this animation for the current hour.

Last night I thought about posting something like "How many times have you crossed the River Styx?" and then suggesting that it's a shame that Charon rows people across the river instead of using a sailboat, as the latter would allow him to tell people to "come sail away with me."

If you want to get into plants in general I know of one named after the Broomrape family.  There is a Broomrape Lane in Lake Havasu City which used to make the road groups rounds in Arizona as a funny.  Almost nobody got that it was just a reference to a parasitic plant.

Kind of meant to be a joke about how hyper-specific some of the trivia and challenge threads are getting.

I had been starting to wonder about consolidating those into a 'Forum Games' sub-topic since they seem to clog the General Highway Talk.

SMH.  The idea of a games sub-topic is coming around again.

I'm all for it, but the powers-that-be are against it.

Allegedly back in 2009 there was a big problem with forum games. Not exactly sure what was going on.

I thought there was sone concern about the forum becoming too "game-focused."

But, look around...

So let's keep it simple... anywhere the French would use either "rivière" or "fleuve".

If you take US-12 west out of Minneapolis, the next 4 cities along the route with a population of at least 35,000 are:

- St. Louis Park, MN (1 mile away)
- Minnetonka, MN (4 miles away)
- Wayzata, MN (7 miles away)
- Missoula, MT (1,120 miles away)

Wayzata only has about 5,000 people. But St. Louis Park, Minnetonka, and Missoula would also meet a 50,000 population threshold.

TIL. I thought it was much larger because Wayzata High School is huge, but it must pull from other municipalities.

The Sabrina Carpenter song "Taste" has this as the chorus:

QuoteI heard you're back together and if that's true
You'll just have to taste me when he's kissin' you
If you want forever, and I bet you do
Just know you'll taste me too

Following that premise to it's conclusion, weren't you tasting her when you were together with him, Sabrina?  Maybe this love triangle should be resolved the same way the one in The Legend of Korra was.

People's feelings about romantic relationships rarely involve logic.  Same for popular songs.
