Speaking of (long ago) popular songs, given the stereotypes about its subject matter, wouldn't you expect Eric Clapton's song "Cocaine" to be more... energetic?

The original, but JJ Cale, is even slightly slower.

It's an anti-cocaine song, so it would be a little odd if it sounded like it was made while on a cocaine high.

Quote from: thspfc on December 14, 2024, 03:50:33 PMIf you take US-12 west out of Minneapolis, the next 4 cities along the route with a population of at least 35,000 are:

- St. Louis Park, MN (1 mile away)
- Minnetonka, MN (4 miles away)
- Wayzata, MN (7 miles away)
- Missoula, MT (1,120 miles away)
Wayzata only has about 5,000 people. But St. Louis Park, Minnetonka, and Missoula would also meet a 50,000 population threshold.

I consider those first three to be suburbs that would just be parts of the city if not for a quirk in state law.  US 12 west of the MSP area is a truly rural main highway.

I got ads promoting living in North Dakota a few weeks ago when I was playing a game. I thought it was rather random.

I heard the phrase "ungodly noise" in reference to a loud sound...and suddenly thought: there can truly be no exponentially massive sounds of comparative volume to the creation of planetary bodies and all other celestial phenomena, which had surely been manufactured by the same creator?

Therefore either no sound is ungodly or all sound is such.

If you feel like you need to live in a red state for some reason, North Dakota has the best Human Development Index.

Well yeah, who would want to live in North Dakota?

Well, the people who live in North Dakota are largely in Fargo (about 135K population) and Bismarck (about 75K), both on I-94 out of Minneapolis. US 12 barely makes it into North Dakota, anyway, just clipping its southwest corner. For bashing North Dakota (lately with very low unemployment rates, but less to offer as a retirement destination), US 12 is almost irrelevant.

US 12 also avoids most of the big cities in Montana, like Bozeman (60K) and Billings (over 120K). I-94 takes you to Billings from Minneapolis, and picks up I-90 to Bozeman.

As mgk920 said above, "US 12 west of the MSP area is a truly rural main highway".

North Dakota has done a really good job with investment of their oil and gas revenues back into the state. It's also an inexpensive place to live. Both the Dakotas are growing faster than all of the other midwest states.

When Kelley Cash (from Tennessee, same family as Johnny Cash) was Miss America, she actually said she didn't know people lived in North Dakota.

The wide open stretches of western North Dakota I've traveled certainly have that isolated feel I like.  In particular US 85 is largely devoid of civilization.  I'd love to live that remotely, my wife not so much.

My niece used to live in Minot with her mother.  We took a few treks across the state to see here, sometimes on I-94, and at least once on US 2.  (Maybe a bit of both as well.)  The fact that I-94 had so many exits without names said something.

The good thing about AARoads is it's a small enough place that you can make a change in it by being the change you want to see in it.

The bad thing about AARoads is no matter how it changes, every once in a while you'll inevitably come across one of my posts.

Exactly that I thought when I saw the ranking. Truly a good example for this thread.

TIL. I thought it was much larger because Wayzata High School is huge, but it must pull from other municipalities.

WHS is actually a misnomer; it's located in Plymouth.
