Title: I ❤️ I-35
Post by: davmillar on July 15, 2018, 11:04:32 PM
I'm Dave, originally from Michigan (Saginaw and then Grand Rapids) and currently living in Fort Worth, Texas, land of express lanes.

I've been a roadgeek since I was a kid but only recently discovered that term. My first road trip was from Michigan to South Dakota for a wedding, and I have fond memories of interesting rest areas and discovering the oases of Chicagoland. I've also explored the Eastern half of route 66 a bit on my last trip home from Texas to Michigan and back, and routinely drive up to Minnesota to visit friends and relax along I-35.

I'm also a software engineer and puzzle author. My newest project is a set of word puzzles with a highway signage theme, that can be checked out at https://interst8.us if you're so inclined. It's still a work in progress and I'm happy to have teedback on it.

I made the "pilgrimage" to clinch I-35 in fall 2015, and having lived in Minneapolis and Duluth all of my life as well as an ex in the DFW area, I've made a lot of memories along I-35 as well. It's probably my second most important route.

A warm welcome from the state of Georgia!

I have been a roadgeek for life, but I, too, did not discover the term and the fact that there was an entire awesome community of us until later on.

I'll see you around on the forum!

Welcome from the Charlotte NC area!

As for your website, the interface looks nice, simple, and clean. Only thing that I could really find wrong was the shade of green, which isn't really that big a deal; it should be hex color 006E54, opposed to what it is now, 308443. That's just my inner pedant leaking through , don't take it personally or anything. Regardless, you've got it going pretty well.

Welcome from Upstate NY!

I had the privilege of driving I-35 from the Twin Cities to Des Moines last week, thereby learning that it is actually possible that 200 miles of interstate exists which is easier to drive than Rochester>Albany!  :-D

Good looking out! I've made the changes on my local copy and need to go through the icons and fix those, but should have it updated in the next day or so. :) I've found various references to the other color as well. I wonder if that's the UK or EU shade used for signage or something. That or maybe some rando picked a color that looked nice to them and started spreading disinfo.

I have been a roadgeek since I was like 5 years old, but I didn't discover the term either until recently.  Welcome!  You're in good hands

I was hoping this was going to be a thread where the director and Lily Tomlin were freaking out

Welcome from your very own Michigan! I live in Grand Rapids and actually made a trip to Ft. Worth earlier this year. Big fan of those stack interchanges you guys have down there.

Those interchanges are great when they're done, but a PITA when under construction. :)

Your from Saginaw? I don't think I've ever met anyone on here that's from Saginaw which is where I'm from. My fondness is I-75 especially between Saginaw and Detroit, I know every nook and cranny of I-75 for well over 100 miles in Michigan, can name every exit and overpass between Houghton Lake and Detroit, a distance of about 200 miles. That is from riding on it just about every day for the past 23 years. I guess I can say I love I-75 but I do get tired of it.

Yup, still have family in the area. Lived a block away from where North Middle School used to be and went to Arthur Hill.

Oh yeah I know where that is. The school is gone now and it's just a vacant lot. Actually that area of Saginaw has gone downhill the last 20 years or so. Nice to see someone from Saginaw on here.

rest omitted

i live on i-35, as born in dallas (though have resided where i indicate almost all my life), and one of my uncles lived in saginaw most of his life.
i have driven in all but five counties of the wolverine. i hoped to do the state this past june, but delays forced me to abort in order to get to trek fest in riverside.
the trip did see me complete i-75 in mi, plus u{s}-2.
when i do finish its counties, i will complete u-223, plus i-96 and all 3dis and business routes around lansing (ingham co is reserved for last), giving me all the interstates in mi, and will finish all the u. s. routes there as well: 23, 31, 127, and 223 (131 is finished, and 10, 12, and 24 are done in mi).
my sig contains the relevant links.
some stats: longest interstate clinched: 94; shortest: 12. i do not assign a longest value to 3dis as there are too many types thereof, but the shortest is 375 (i have yet to drive on 878 which is the shortest unsigned one). the longest state highway i have finished is ca-99, and shortest to date ks-279 though there is at least one shorter i have seen.
maybe i can finish mi next year!
