[bl-70 and ks-25]
2007 Colby, KS
Business 70 doesn't even exist here anymore.

neato!  I am glad that photo exists, as my photo of that gantry, from Dec 2007, looks like this:

that was at 4am, after I had been talked to by the sheriff because I stopped in the middle of an intersection to take a picture of a US-24 sign in Colby... he was kindly escorting me out of town, so that's the photo I snapped.

Pontiac, IL , near North side looking south. Bridgehunter reports the bridge is closed now, but is preserved.

You got chased out of town for taking a picture of a sign?

not quite.

I was stopped in the middle of an intersection which had US-24, I-70, and KS-25 signs; my foot on the brake, with the camera resting on the steering wheel for a medium-long exposure shot.  absolutely no traffic, except when I moved along, a few seconds later, the sheriff (who had been, apparently, a block or three away with his lights off) pulled me over and asked me just what I had been doing stopped in the middle of the intersection like that.

I told him that I had gotten disoriented and had been comparing the signs to my map.  I quickly asked for directions back to I-70, and he told me to take 25 south.  to make sure that I did, he followed me.

it was a reasonable response on his part; it wasn't anywhere near I was "chased out of town", as much as I was lucky to not get a ticket.

Not nearly as old as some of the excellent stuff posted here, but here's a well-worn one from I-95 and MA 128 northwest of Boston:

Somehow that sign escaped the replacement in the 90s that included button copy in I-shields (only); the signs to the right on the same gantry (http://g.co/maps/v8xvp) were replaced then but not the pull-through, maybe because of the C-D setup?  Although that replacement was a full-blown replacement of everything, including signage on intersecting roads, so I don't know why the pull-through would have been missed.  At least they coulda put a button-copy shield up on the old sign!

Old SBI 4, pre-dating any part of US-66 along there.

I once read a history book that showed a photograph of a no parking sign from the south in the 1950's that read "No Parking for Negro or N*****s Allowed," or something to that effect. You can probably guess what the bleeped out word is. And that was a genuine road sign!

I'm not so sure I'd want to see that for any reason other than to prove such road sigsn existed.

But without nougat, there would be no Three Musketeers...And thus, no end to Slumdog Millionaire.

Some towns actually did post signs at the city limits to keep blacks out. But very few of these signs have ever been photographed.
Might as well face it, pooing is cool

Going through a box of old junk, found a gem...  1955 during the flood in Stafford Springs, CT  Where the EB Conn 20 (now 190) and SB Conn 32 Concurrency Split on main street.  Notice guide signs showing 32 SB to Providence and Willimantic, and then EB instead of a sign for 20 EB, it shows to Conn 15 (Wilbur Cross Highway, now I-84)  Boston and Worcester sign.

Here's roughly the same intersection today. Thank you boredom! :)

Seriously, that was likely during Hurricane Diane in 1955. New England was hit with two huge storms in two weeks or less. I wasn't around them, so be kind if I'm wrong!  :pan:

I think I see a Studebaker dealership that no longer exists.

The Tee's Chapel is the sixth black-on-white sign I have found.  Two of them, Wake Crossroads and Mt. Pelier Church have been removed.  The other Amantha - I have yet to see in person.
