Someone posted this on /r/InfrastructurePorn earlier, and I thought some people here might appreciate it:

Ceramic signs embedded in bridge abutments. No location given.

I believe that bridge is on former RI-84 (now an unnumbered extension of CT-184), right at the CT state line. Though in RI, it can only be accesed from the CT side of the border.

Most concrete bridges in RI have those ceramic tile markers on them.

Indeed, you nailed it. www.alpsroads.net/roads/ct/ct_184/

I remember well when I-75 had that drawbridge (with traffic lights, too). :coffee:

Photo of an old 'SLOW' warning sign on Woodville Ave. in Pittsburgh from 1959.

this is at the PA 51/US 19 interchange with I-376 on the suburbs side of the Ft. Pitt Tunnels.  These SLOW signs are still found every now and then.

Found these slides on ebay some time ago.

^^ That last one is very interesting.  Instead of the standard "WEST {30}", it's a bit more descriptive.  Gotta wonder about the reason why it is more descriptive.

Interesting finds, especially this last one.  Any idea where it was located?

luokou

^^ Haven't any idea. The only way to find out is if that building on the right still exists (and also where Jay Shropshire lived).

Old style guide sign North Carolina used on overpasses.

This is located on old US 311 (Main St.) at Business I-85 in High Point.

I know of two others still in place.

In Raleigh - a sign for Cameron Village on Peace St.
And on US 64 - a sign for NC 226

There used to be one on I-95 for NC 50, but that was removed about a decade ago when they rebuilt the interchange and overpass.

neat...The only other I-95 one to make it to the 1990s was at US 701.  But they were quite prevalent in the 1970s.

NC 50-242 was also the last I-95 BGS to have the shields with the cutout design with the interlocked NC at the top, which made it into the 1980s.

On older interstate or freeway overpasses - you can see the outline of the overall guide sign.

I didn't know NC used the interlocking cutout shields on guide signs.  Too bad there are not any photos of such.  I know they used outlined cutouts for US routes - with nearly all of them gone today.

This may still be around:

Great shot of the Point in Pittsburgh around 1967-68.  Though the signs aren't completely legible - near the bottom left hand corner you can see the blank button copy overheads for the North Shore Exit (PA 65) continuation of then I-79 over the Allegheny River.

Leaving blank overhead guide signs was somewhat common in PA in that period - most likely all of them are gone now but I do recall one at I-79 North ramp to US 19 North for the never built ramp to Thorn Hill Road.

ConnDOT doesn't feel the need to replace a couple of BGS' near me, along Corbin Avenue in New Britain, at the junction of the CT Route 72 expressway:

Looking northbound on Corbin Avenue (CT Route 372 West)

Also northbound on Corbin Avenue

A plain and simple Connecticut municipal boundary/town line sign, along CT Route 372 West. The bridge for I-84 West is in the background.
