Buffalo:
I-90 East: Albany
I-90 West: Erie, PA
I-190 North: Niagara Falls, then Lewiston
And I guess I-990: Lockport is a bit of an edge case.
You forgot one:

Oh, of course, the most important of them all!  :pan:

For Boise (excluding cities in the MSA like Nampa and Caldwell; ):
I-84 East: It's a split between Twin Falls and Mountain Home
I-84 West: Ontario
ID-55 North: McCall
ID-55 South: Winnemucca
ID-21 North: Idaho City

Anything I didn't list doesn't have a significant non-local control city, eg. US-20/26 just use Notus and Parma.

I'm waiting for the Chicagoland post...

I mean, with gems like (Directional) Suburbs, Indiana, Wisconsin, and Iowa...greatest Control *Cities* Ever!

When the I-355 Will County Extension first opened, the signed Control on I-55 for I-355 was simply "Suburbs." If memory serves IDOT/ISTHA removed it after the Tribune Traffic Reporter ran a story highlighting how absurd "Suburbs" is as a Control, when one is already traveling thru various Suburbs on I-55

I-275: Toledo and Flint (*)
I-696: Lansing and Port Huron (*)

M-59: Pontiac and Utica at I-75 interchange; Utica/Pontiac and Mt Clemens at M-53 interchange; Utica and Selfridge ANG at I-94 interchange
M-53: Detroit and Imlay City at M-59 interchange

* - although you have to take other routes, in one case 2 others, to get to those cities
Your question marks. For M-10 Southfield is correct. For M-8 it just says Davison Freeway no control city. For I-96 the wording, "Downtown Detroit" is used for the eastbound Jeffries at the Southfield.

Rockford (NB) and St Louis (SB) also make appearances for 355.

Rockford is signed for the I-80 exit to NB 355. St Louis is on an overhead BGS on the northern section of SB 355 between 290 and 88

I believe Des Moines is still signed on one or two BGSs on I-80 WB near I-57

O'Hare appears as a Control on I-294, also

If "To Toll Road" and "To I-80" count as Controls for 65 and 355, respectively, then Lake Shore Drive needs added to the I-55 list, as that is the NB Control between the Dan Ryan and LSD

Alexandria, LA is a pretty good wagon wheel with highway spokes:

I-49 north - Shreveport
I-49 south - Opelousas
US 71 north- Shreveport
US 71 south- Baton Rouge
US 165 north - Monroe
US 165 south - Lake Charles
US 167 north - Winnfield
LA 28 west - Leesville
LA 28 east - Jonesville

Dallas/Fort Worth

I-35E/I-35W south - Waco
I-45 south - Houston
US 67 south - Cleburne
US 75 north - McKinney
US 80 east - Terrell
US 175 south - Kaufman
US 287/US 81 north - Decatur
US 287 south - Mansfield

US-175 is east, not south

Also I've always thought it was weird that US 165 from Monroe is signed Columbia (pop. 390) to the south instead of Alexandria (pop. 47,723), and Bastrop (pop. 11,365) to the north instead of Pine Bluff (pop. 49,083 / reached by US 425 from Bastrop) or Little Rock (pop. 193,490 / fastest route also takes US 425 from Bastrop).

Unless this sign has been recently replaced there's one for Des Moines.

There's also at least two appearances of "Gary Indiana" and one with just Gary for I-80.

I guess with 165 from I-20, it's hitting the next parish in both directions. Bastrop at least has some size to it. I agree with Alexandria for 165 south. Because Monroe is signed from Alexandria north.

US 167 from I-20 is just as bad. Dubach? Really?

It's time for the Ruston exits to be changed to street names and maybe a secondary sign for cities like Winnfield and ElDorado, AR at US 167. The new exit 83 will say Tarbutton Rd with a Parish route.
