Title: New style reference markers on OR-217

Just sighted some new style reference markers up on OR-217 placed every .5 miles.  There's still a few old style up but most of them have been switched out from the construction site on the north end down to Exit 5.

I just spotted those signs for the first time today.  (Even though I live in Tigard, I make it a point to avoid 217 if at all possible.)

Is that a new ODOT standard that we'll see on other roads?  It makes a lot of sense on a short freeway like the 217...not sure how feasible those signs are on other roads.  (Not to mention they appear to be a lot more expensive - between the overall larger sign, and the wooden signposts.)

As a westside taxi driver, I don't have that option, although I do avoid it between 3 and 7 PM during the evening rush.

Haven't been able to find anything on the ODOT website.  This may be a testbed for doing the rest of the freeway system.  Seeing if they need to go to every .2 miles like a number of other states have done or if they can settle for going every .5 miles.  At .5 miles, it would take about 3000 signs to cover the whole freeway system in OR.  At .2 miles, it would take about 7500 signs.

Any particular reason for .2 miles?  Not .25 miles?

Missouri uses .2 miles along their interstates and freeway portions of US 71 near KC

I saw them on Saturday, and what stuck out the most is that every single needs a numbering adjustment (Exit 2A preceding MP 2, for example). :pan:

I noticed that with the exit numbering myself.  While looking at traffic count information off the ODOT website, I noticed, on the ramp traffic count document, a different exit numbering sequence on the OR-217 section that matched up more with the mileposting.

I was just on OR-217 a few hours back and saw how they differed from those on I-5. But being an Oregon native, I never would have noticed it was actually some kind of new standard. Interesting nonetheless.
