Newly signed Oregon Route . . . sort of

OR 331 is one of the 2002-designated routes, a short connector between I-84 and OR 11 east of Pendleton passing by the Wildhorse Casino/Resort.  These shields have recently gone up on approaches to the highway from Wildhorse Resort-connected enterprises: one at the Travel Plaza, the other at the Casino:

The street sign blades in the area also now say "HWY 331," but there are no reassurance shields on the highway itself, nor any indication of Rte 331 in signage at either endpoint.  It's possible these shields were erected by the Resort in anticipation of 331's signing by ODOT.

In other news from this trip: despite being depicted on the official State Highway Map, OR 350 is still not signed on the ground.  Other post-2002 routes 351, 332, 334, 335, 339, 413, and 414 are also still unsigned.

How many of the post-2002 routes have been signed? One would figure at least the more principal routes would already have at least one route marker on or around it. I recently saw a couple of 528 signs at the OR-126/Pioneer Pkwy interchange last time I was in the area; I snapped a few pics that hopefully turned out decent.

103, 131, 551, 569 have been signed.
Others, like 120 and 141, have not.
100 has been signed, but not as 100; it got Hist. US 30.

Essentially, the routes may be official, but don't get your hopes up on them being signed.

Here's the complete list:

Signed: 103, 104, 131, 260 (but some have been removed since initial signing), 273 (just 2 shields), 281, 282, 293, 331 (2 shields on side rds), 380 (1 shield at jct), 402, 422, 501, 528, 551, 569

Unsigned but should be signed:  130 (although it is on the state hwy map),
                                           153, 154, 164, 173, 180, 194, 200,
                                           225, 241, 255, 332, 334, 335, 350 (on state hwy map),
                                           351, 361, 370, 410, 540 (on state hwy map), 542

Probably will never be signed:  120 (ODOT relinquished the Swift Hwy in 2007),
141 (most of route not state-maintained),
                                        182 (relinquished),
222 (it's 2 disconnected pieces and part has been relinquished),
                                        250, 251 (both very short),
339 (just parallels OR 11 a mile west, part not state-maintained),
413, 414 (I'll be surprised if these turn up: 414 really short, 413 is gravel for half its length),
                                        429 (really short),
                                        451 (doesn't really go anywhere),
452, 453, 454 (all three short, don't connect to anything in Idaho)

I agree with Bickendan on not getting hopes up; there seems to be little enthusiasm on a lot of these.  I've seen projects come and go on many of these routes with no signage resulting.  It seems to be a regional thing: some areas embraced their routes, like 402, 103/104 and 281/282.  Some were signed right away without a lot of enthusiasm, like 501, 273, and 293.  Other areas just don't seem interested despite the fact their routes would be pretty useful, like 361 and 370 in central Oregon and 540/542 near Coos Bay.

Oddly, it appears on the state hwy map as OR 100.

WSDOT should offer to pay for 331 to be fully signed- I remember the first time my family went to Walla Walla from Boise we had much difficulty locating the best exit for Walla Walla, which would be 331. That's a legitimately important corridor for regional travel that has a decent amount of traffic on it. There's really no excuse for it not to be signed.

528 is signed pretty well.  It's on a couple BGS's on OR 126 WB (but oddly not on EB), and also on BUS OR 126 EB (again, not on WB), plus a couple reassurance shields on Pioneer Parkway.  Here's some of my pix:

I'd put 372 (Century Drive) on that list as well.  It wasn't signed when I was last in Bend (in June) and that designation already gets used quite a bit by the media and by the tourism types in Central Oregon.  As well-known as it is, I'm really surprised it hasn't been signed yet.

I agree with you it should be signed, but I left it off the list because it was one of the few unsigned highways that ODOT did not request a route number for back in 2002.  The Midland Hwy #420 and the part of the Klamath Falls-Malin Hwy #50 east of Merrill were also not assigned route numbers.

Bickendan

That's why those three routes didn't make it into the Clinched Highways site for Oregon's routes.

372 does have the file completed... but until ODOT decides to do something useful with it, it's not available for clinching.
