I've been here almost a month now, so I'd better introduce myself. I'm a former MTR lurker/occasional poster with a lifelong interest in roads, maps, big green signs, roadside attractions, diners, gas stations with good coffee (trading Kwik Trip for Casey's is not an upgrade), and the like. I have lived all over the upper Midwest but for the last 8.66 years I've lived in southernmost Illinois (like, south of Marion/Carbondale) and I plan to stay here as long as I can. My road interests include non-Interstate freeways, anything related to rural highways, and alternate routes between destinations. My road quirk is preferring not to return from somewhere by the same route I used to get there. It's very nice to be here.

Welcome from a neighbor in the tropical portion of Indiana!  I've lived in SW Indiana all my life and I don't ever remember hearing "baja Illinois" ever.

I would like to amend my previous post to "the slight, insignificant downhill grade near Goreville on I-57 that leads to a collection of minor geographic obstacles that were probably caused by gophers and moles."
