Well this isn't an April Fool's joke. It's a legitimate question.

Where on NY 199 is (or was) this church? I looked thoughout GSV, but I couldn't find it.

"Rowe?" Is that what that says? I thought it said something like "Piore" United Methodist Church.

Things are happening quickly in NY for a change... traffic data for Monday (eclipse day) is already available from many of NYSDOT's continuous count sites! As I get time, I'll be parsing through it all and sharing findings of interest. For anyone else interested, here is the link:

https://nysdottrafficdata.drakewell.com/publicmultinodemap.asp

Filtering tip: use the bottom left menu to turn off the "All" selection, then turn on "CCS Active" and "WIM Active", as these are the only sites with updated data.

One of the nice things with Drakewell is it (mostly) updates in real time.  As soon as NYSDOT processes a traffic count, it's there, available for everyone to see.  The exception is AADT values; those get processed in batch once a year.

That last sentence is a source of a whole lot of frustration.  I've heard a lot of "They couldn't just do the calculation?!" type complaints over that one.

They would probably mostly ramp gradually from what they were on Jan 1 of one year to Jan 1 of the next year. A one year running average filters out all the interesting shorter term changes.

It would be nice if it was more consistent in terms of what get processed when, though.

About a third of the CC sites are uniformly updated through the 8th, while the other two-thirds are widely variable, with most recent data ranging from the 1st to the 7th. From what I can tell, it's pretty much completely random, with no rhyme or reason to what's updated based on location, region, or road type.

For what it's worth, "continuous" is a subjective term when it comes to those stations...

I drove across the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge today and I noticed the eastbound exit signage for NY-9D is already... peeling?

Google Maps shows these signs were installed in 2022 and were peeling while the westbound roadwork was still underway. Does anyone know why this happens?

I'll guess crappy quality. Also a mistake was made in production re: the size of the Danbury lettering. Can't believe no one noticed the error before the sign was installed. Or does just nobody care?

Regarding the lettering size, some people think it's supposed to be that way. The MUTCD says the lowercase letters should be 3/4 the size of the uppercase letters. It's often misinterpreted to mean the font size for the lowercase letters should be less.

The same size issue comes up at the Exit 41 gore, you can even see it on the 9D sign: https://maps.app.goo.gl/AR5ngnRGem319HkQA

I don't get it. You don't have to have the letters P.E. after your name to see that those letter sizes on those signs don't look right. But at least they sign the lane-drop properly unlike their counterparts in New Jersey in some cases.

Also those down pointing arrows look too small. But I'm not sure. It could just be the angle we're looking at it in the photo.
