This vote is binding. It requires a simple majority to pass.

Unless the forum software is malfunctioning, you can change your vote. You can also propose amendments to this bill.

Quote
WHEREAS, there is a great need for United States Highway 287 to be upgraded between Fort Worth and Amarillo;

WHEREAS, the annual average daily traffic on United States Highway 287 is greater than that on proposed Interstate 14;

NOW THEREFORE, Interstate 32 shall be created. It shall overlap United States Highway 287 from its western terminus at Interstate 40 and its eastern terminus at Interstate 35W.

Eighty (80) percent of the funding of Interstate 14 shall be redistributed to Interstate 32.

This bill does not preclude the extension of Interstate 32 west of Interstate 40 or east of Interstate 35W, nor does it preclude decommissioning United States Highway 287.

This bill shall be effective immediately.
Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

Why here and not fictional?

It's not fictional; if this passes, I-32 will actually be created.

So you're quoting from an official document, then?
It sounded legit, but I thought you just made it up.

I created the document. It's being voted on right here, on this forum.

4/1 madness

Shoot, I remembered first thing this morning, too, but I had totally forgotten!  :crazy:

So a vote count on a roadgeek forum is enough for TXDOT to agree to building this highway?

You're talking about I-14 only in Texas, right? I'd be down for it if funds aren't redirected from other states.
Forget the I-41 haters

Choice "day"  for the bill....  How come no I-7 for California over CA 99?

US 81

I'll only vote for it if we can re-commission all the US highways that TX has murdered over the last 30 years.

I thought Caltrans was doing the upgrades themselves, and then AASHTO would approve the renumbering after all of the route was Interstate grade.

Supposedly, but I'd expect to actually see the real announcement as akin to an April Fool's joke since it's completely unbelievable that Caltrans would be that proactive.

WHO VOTED NO

A few members here believe that Interstate numbers should never be legislated, even if the corridor itself is worthwhile. There might also be a few living on the I-14 corridor.

WHO VOTED NO

There wasn't an option for NO, so I voted Nay.

Not all highways need to be Interstates.

The upgrade is based on traffic counts, which according to 1, are high enough to justify making it an Interstate.

I know.

Have you looked at the AADTs?  I think it's debatable that traffic counts warrant an Interstate designation.  AADT doesn't even top 11,000 along any stretch between Chillicothe and Amarillo.  In my opinion, US-287 should be upgraded to a full freeway between Fort Worth and Vernon but, west of there, some bypasses and grade-separated interchanges are all that's needed.

I voted yes/co-sponsor for two reasons:
1. This would fix an issue in the system that drives me bonkers: the fact that I-44 just ends in Wichita Falls, making maps of the system ugly
2. I hate I-14

Mostly 1

Better idea: upgrade US 287 to a full freeway between Fort Worth and Wichita Falls, with a spur (3di, possibly temprary) to Vernon, and make it an extension of I-44 to confuse everyone, including the roadgeeks.
