Title: Ronald Reagan and Hillary Clinton look-alikes in commercials
Post by: bandit957 on February 13, 2019, 10:25:54 AM
Anyone remember a TV commersh in the early 1980s that had a Ronald Reagan look-alike? I think it was for deodorant. The Ronald Reagan look-alike was a clerk or owner of a drugstore, and he was confronted by a woman marching into the store who was angry about the quality of various deodorants.

In the early 2000s, there was a GasX commersh with a Hillary Clinton look-alike. She was sitting in a movie theater with 2 other women eating popcorn.

I once saw a Bill Clinton look-alike back when I worked at the library.

This post is not a statement of support or opposition for the aforementioned political figures. It is merely a humorous observation.

Jerry's Subs and Pizza in the DC area used to have celebrity/politician impersonators in most, if not all, of its radio commercials.  None were very good impressions.  The Ozzy Osbourne impersonator in a commercial that ran at the height of the popularity of The Osbournes was really just a guy mumbling in an English accent while being bleeped every few words.

Bob Greene, the former Chicago Tribune columnist, once wrote a column about a woman who made a living being hired to impersonate Marilyn Monroe at parties.  I've never been to a party with a celebrity impersonator.

I don't recall those but I immediately thought of Richard M. Dixon (James LaRoe).

More or less, yeah.  Plus "celebrity voices were BEEEEEP impersonated" at the end.

I seem to recall that in the '90s, there was an actor who was fairly busy serving as a look-alike for Pope John Paul II.

And another one who was fairly busy serving as a look-alike for Saddam Hussein.

That's really not how I'd define "look-alike."  Those are commercials that just happen to contain actors that resemble Reagan and HRC.  Which makes more sense, neither company would want to be slapped with a lawsuit for implying that either figure was endorsing their product.

I believe the actor in the deodorant commercial also appears at the end of Trading Places and yes, he does strongly resemble Reagan.

^ No, Abe–I think this is Bandit's dadaist "performance art"  of the day.

The elaborate premise that he cooked up this morning was that he'd post about celebrity look-alikes, thus prompting other forum members to post examples of actual celebrity look-alikes. Then later in the day after he lured some gullible saps into his trap, he'd post his example videos (which he surely had in his back pocket all along) featuring actors who only vaguely resemble the famous people in question–and who clearly weren't trying to pass themselves off as those famous people. Finally, he could take great amusement from the surprised reactions of the patsies who had responded–as they realized they'd have been wasting their time.

Hilarious, yes? Well, no. But I'm sure Bandit is rolling around on the floor convulsing with laughter.

It was probably foolish of me to expect the guy who uses "bubbling" as a verb meaning "to blow a bubble while chewing bubble gum" to use the most common definition of "look-alike," but here I am.

I don't feel particularly used, here.
