This might have been brought up before.  Any good books on road history with pictures?

Even hard to find books?  I use Alibris to find hard to find books.

I only take pics of good looking signs. Long live non-reflective button copy!

Depends on what you want to look for on the subject.  Obviously something like US 66 is going to have some pretty extensive little books that vary in detail from the casual tourist to full on road geek.  Seems like there are a lot more websites oriented towards roadway history more than anything else.  Suppose that's the benefit of the internet, something for everyone.

Here's an earlier thread on the topic:

I never got very far with "Traffic" and not much further with "The Roads that Built America".  Both are still sitting next to the bed and I'll get back to them someday, both victims of an increasingly shorter attention span, lack of time and procrastination.  I also have a number of road/bridge historical picture books - Garden State Parkway (of course), NJ Turnpike, US 1, many bridge books, etc.  Still waiting for the publisher of "Trains" to come out with "Roads" (and the industry mag 'Roads and Bridges' doesn't count, nor is it as interesting as it sounds).

There are books dedicated to the following highways and their history by Dr. Robert Musson.  They are very thorough in their coverage:

US 21 - http://www.zepppublications.com/21.htm
US 22 - http://www.zepppublications.com/22.htm
US 250 - http://www.zepppublications.com/250.htm

Disclosure:  I contributed material to the US 21 and US 250 books either directly or via highway websites that I wrote the information for.  He did send me a copy of each of those books as his thanks but I do not receive any compensation for copies that are purchased.
