Title: Search function one character words
Post by: Roadgeekteen on May 09, 2020, 03:41:31 PM
The search function for some reason does not let you type only one character words or single numbers. Makes it hard to search for 2 lane roads related topics.

Just leave out the "2", and "lane roads" should do you pretty well.

Wouldn't a single character search literally just pull up every single instance that character was used?

Correct.  The search query finds all instances of the string, whether it's part of another word or not.  So searching for {2 lane roads} would pull up every post with "lane" and "roads" and...

*  "2" in the topic number
*  "2" in the message number
*  "2" in the time stamp
*  "2" anywhere in post, including topic number, message number, or time stamp of any quoted material.

I think you can see why that would be an undesirable feature.

Add "site:aaroads.com" to a query on Google and it will limit results to only this site.

If you put the phrase in quotes you can use single character words...

"2 lane road" produced 11 pages on a search.
