For those who log their highway mileage on TravelMapping or in some other way, how does your mileage break down by state?

(unique mileage, not counting any stretch of road more than once no matter how many times you've covered it)

For me:

> 25,000 miles: 0
15,000-24,999 miles: 0
10,000-14,999 miles: 1 (IN)
7,500-9,999 miles: 1 (IL)
5,000-7,499 miles: 0
2,500-4,999 miles: 1 (MI)
1,000-2,499 miles: 7 (OH, WI, KY, CO, AZ, CA, FL)
750-999 miles: 4 (PA, TX, TN, MO)
500-749 miles: 7 (WY, UT, NM, MT, AL, MN, GA)
250-499 miles: 17 (OK, WA, VA, KS, NE, WV, SD, MD, NY, IA, ND, SD, MS, NC, AR, NJ, MA)
100-249 miles: 3 (NH, CT, LA)
1-99 miles: 8 (NV, OR, VT, RI, DC, ME, DE, ID)
0 miles: 2 (AK, HI)
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%
Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

Using your gradations:

> 25,000 miles: 0
15,000-24,999 miles: 0
10,000-14,999 miles: 0
7,500-9,999 miles: 1 (CO)
5,000-7,499 miles: 0
2,500-4,999 miles: 6 (KS, ID, MN, MO, TX, WY)
1,000-2,499 miles: 12 (AZ, CA, FL, GA, IA, MS, MT, NE, NM, OK, UT, WA)
750-999 miles: 9 (AL, IN, KY, LA, NV, PA, SD, TN, VA)
500-749 miles: 12 (AK, AR, IA, MD, ME, NC, ND, NY, OH, OR, SC, WI)
250-499 miles: 6 (CT, MA, MI, NH, NJ, VT)
100-249 miles: 2 (DE, WV)
1-99 miles: 1 (RI)
0 miles: 1 (HI)

To split up 1,000-4,999 a bit more finely, since I have a good chunk of states there:
4,500-4,999: 0
4,000-4,499: 1 (KS)
3,500-3,999: 0
3,000-3,499: 1 (TX)
2,500-2,999: 4 (ID, MN, MO, WY)
2,000-2,499: 3 (FL, NE, NM)
1,500-1,999: 3 (AZ, IL, UT)
1,000-1,499: 6 (CA, GA, MS, MT, OK, WA)

AzNate

I don't have much yet, so for me it's just this:

> 25,000 miles: 0
15,000-24,999 miles: 0
10,000-14,999 miles: 0
7,500-9,999 miles: 0
5,000-7,499 miles: 0
2,500-4,999 miles: 1 (AZ)
1,000-2,499 miles: 0
750-999 miles: 2 (TX, NM)
500-749 miles: 1 (CA)
250-499 miles: 2 (FL, LA)
100-249 miles: 7 (UT, NV, SC, NC, VA, CO, GA)
1-99 miles: 9 (MD, MS, AL, NJ, PA, NY, DE, CT, DC)
0 miles: 29 (AK, AR, HI, ID, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, ME, MA, MI, MN, MO, MT, NE, NH, ND, OH, OK, OR, RI, SD, TN, VT, WA, WV, WI, WY)

10,000-14,999 miles: 2 (TX, FL)
7,500-9,999 miles: 1 (AL)
5,000-7,499 miles: 2 (GA, TN)
2,500-4,999 miles: 9 (NY, CA, MS, IN, OH, NC, LA, PA, IL)
1,000-2,499 miles: 13 (WI, VA, MI, CO, MO, SC, AR, MD, IA, NJ, OK, WA, SD)

100-249 miles: 5 (AZ, NH, VT, DE, ND)
1-99 miles: 3 (NV, ID, DC)
0 miles: 3 (MT, AK, HI)

I have an itch to create "airline status"-like strata for these levels...

15,000+: Technetium
10,000-14,999 miles: Seaborgium
7,500-9,999 miles: Iron
5,000-7,499 miles: Diamond
2,500-4,999 miles: Platinum
1,000-2,499 miles: Gold
750-999 miles: Silver
500-749 miles: Bronze
250-499 miles: Nickel
100-249 miles: Sodium
1-99 miles: Lithium

webny99

Using my own mini-scale here...

5000-9999 miles: 1 (NY)
1000-4999 miles: 2 (PA, MN)
500-999 miles: 4 (MI, OH, VA, WI) + 1 province (ON)
250-499 miles: 11 (KY, MA, MD, ME, ND, NJ, SD, TN, TX, VT, WV) + 1 province (MB)
100-249 miles: 7 (CA, CT, DE, IA, IL, IN, RI)
1-99 miles: 3 (DC, MT, NH) + 2 provinces (BC, QC)

0 miles: 23 (AL, AK, AZ, AR, CO, FL, GA, HI, ID, KS, LA, MS, MO, NE, NV, NM, NC, OK, OR, SC, UT, WA, WY)

JoePCool14

Also using OP's breakdown:

> 25,000 miles: 0
15,000-24,999 miles: 0
10,000-14,999 miles: 0
7,500-9,999 miles: 0
5,000-7,499 miles: 0
2,500-4,999 miles: 0
1,000-2,499 miles: 2 (WI, IL)
750-999 miles: 1 (MI)
500-749 miles: 1 (IN)
250-499 miles: 1 (IA)
100-249 miles: 3 (AZ, KY, TN)
1-99 miles: 5 (OH, SC, TX, GA, FL)
> 0 mile*: 11 (NC, VA, DC, NY, PA, UT, ME, MA, WV, MD, DE)
0 miles:

I have a long way to go in gaining any significant mileage. I could crack 2,000 miles in Wisconsin if I did a long enough trip of a couple hundred miles. Illinois has a longer way to go.

* These are the states I know I have mileage in but since I can't remember exactly where, I haven't entered anything into TM. Similarly, other states have incomplete results for the same reason. My rule of thumb is if I can't remember the road, there's no point in saying I clinched it.

:) Needs more... :sombrero: Not quite... :bigass: Perfect.

Is "platinum" always going to be above "gold" in rewards programs, tiers, etc.? For actual metal prices, they swapped in 2014, and the gap continues to get wider in favor of gold.

For the actual question, I have two states (VA and PA) that don't fit into a category (both between 0 and 1 mile), but they both have things I could log but just missed, which would bring both above 1 mile.
Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

Round to the nearest mile.

Illinois: counties 100%, highways 61%
Michigan: counties 100%, highways 56%
Wisconsin: counties 86%, highways 23%

Pretty much, and I suppose it's just by association. Although not all rewards programs use the same terminology, a lot of them go something like this:

basic member < silver < gold < platinum < higher-than-that-because-of-exclusivity < super-secret club

Since about half the states have TM totals under 10,000 miles, different percentage thresholds make it more fair (i.e. Connecticut has far less overall mileage than Ohio, et cetera).

"Just missed" as in just not logged, or came short of traveling the entire segment?

I go case by case but default towards including partial segments when I've traveled more than half of the segment, especially for shorter segments.

I simply didn't log them. I've traveled the full segment and could easily add them.

I'd say go for it then. Certainly count those states in the 1-99 mile category here even if you don't add the segments.

The few times I've had to do case-by-case, I usually go by whether I can see the remaining segment. If not, I don't count it as clinched yet.

Until recently, I never gave a second thought to how helium was created and stored. It only comes naturally from radioactive decay and emission, so we have strategic reserves of helium. And it's festive at parties!

Most of it obviously created, most closely to us, by the sun through nuclear fusion of course.

I've spaced things out perfectly to start and then have a huge bottleneck at the bottom:

5,000-7,499 miles: 1 (WA)
2,500-4,999 miles: 1 (OR)
1,000-2,499 miles: 1 (CA)
750-999 miles: 0
500-749 miles: 3 (MT, UT, ID)
250-499 miles: 3 (OH, NV, BC)
100-249 miles: 2 (WY, MI)
50-99 miles: 6 (CT, ON, MA, VA, NY, QC)
1-49 miles: 6 (AZ, MD, HI, DC, NJ, IL)

Funny that I only have 345 miles in the closest province to me and yet hundreds more in far-flung Utah now.

Going by percentages:

90% to 100%: 0
80% to 89%: 1 (WA)
70% to 79%: 0
60% to 69%: 0
50% to 59%: 0
40% to 49%: 1 (OR)
30% to 39%: 0
20% to 29%: 0
10% to 19%: 2 (ID, UT)
0.01 to 9%: 19 (NV, DC, CA, MT, BC, WY, CT, OH, MA, MI, ON, VA, HI, AZ, QC, NY, MD, NJ, IL)
