1938 Dinkey Creek Bridge

Since the weather was good I went up to the Sierras this morning to see the 1938 Dinkey Creek Bridge.  The Dinkey Creek Bridge is a unique timber based Bowstring Arch Truss which apparently was the only of it's kind built in California.  I wrote the following over on the Gribblenation Facebook page regarding the Dinkey Creek Bridge:

"Bridge Monday takes us to the 1938 Dinkey Creek Bridge on Old McKinley Grove Road in Sierra National Forest. The 1938 Dinkey Creek Bridge is the only Bowstring Arch Truss structure in California and is located 12 miles east of CA 168/Shaver Lake over the namesake Dinkey Creek. The 1938 Dinkey Creek Bridge was replaced by a new structure in 1956 to downstream to facilitate construction of the Wishon and Courtright Reservoirs. The 1938 Dinkey Creek Bridge was closed automotive traffic in 1965 and was restored in 1988. The 1938 Dinkey Creek Bridge was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996. The namesake Dinkey Creek is named after a dog during the California Gold Rush in 1863 which attempted to fight a grizzly bear and lost."

That doesn't look like there'd be any point to rebuilding it, as it would pretty much be a brand new bridge that serves no purpose. At least I got to walk over it and take pictures of it once. It was a cool bridge.
