I saw that article from last March about a map alternative to Bing maps then Microsoft did called Azure maps. https://www.infoworld.com/article/3346086/how-azure-maps-differs-from-bing-maps-for-developers.html

And another open-source alternative to Google maps who was developed in France called Qwant maps. https://www.ghacks.net/2019/06/29/qwant-maps-open-source-google-maps-alternative-launches/

It could be interesting to see how these alternatives will go.
