Santa Ana Street street running rails (Anaheim)

Santa Ana Street in the city of Anaheim features s street-running line of the Union Pacific Railroad.  The Union Pacific Railroad joins Santa Ana Street at West Street and runs east in the center turn lane towards Olive Street.  The line occupying Santa Ana Street was placed by the Southern Pacific Railroad originally as a spur in 1899.

Wow it's interesting that Union Pacific would be on the median of a major street. In most places if you see a rail on the street it's because a Trolley/Light Rail/Cable Car has a line there for passengers.

There's a thread on street running somewhere on this forum.  It's more common than you'd think.

Turns out the reason the Southern Pacific rerouted the mainline through Anaheim onto Santa Ana Street was due to the previous mainline being consumed for the Manchester Boulevard extension.  This became California State Route 10, US Route 101 Bypass, US Route 101 and eventually Interstate 5.  I touched up the blog to better explain the situation.
