Here's a feature I haven't seen before. There are now little buttons you can click on to find various places of business. Sorry, it's in French, but it doesn't appear when I use the English version.

On the whole, I don't really like it since it takes up a bit too much space. People on the go might find it handy, and it will certainly keep their advertisers happy.

Interstates clinched: 4, 57, 275 (IN-KY-OH), 465 (IN), 640 (TN), 985
State Interstates clinched: I-26 (TN), I-75 (GA), I-75 (KY), I-75 (TN), I-81 (WV), I-95 (NH)

Something strange has been happening to me lately with Google Maps. This probably happened to me for the first time about a week ago, and it has happened several times since then, including a few hours ago tonight. The issue is that when I turn Terrain on on Google Maps (the turning it on part works just fine), and then I try to turn it off, it doesn't respond. The only way to undo it is to actually go back to whatever was previously on that tab (the last thing I searched on Google Maps, directions I had, or last setting I touched, etc.), and this can be irksome, and sometimes it might go too far (where it will "X" out of Google Maps altogether, due to going all the way to the beginning of the history of that tab). This is definitely new, and it is quite annoying, but I don't know why it's happening. I use Terrain a lot on Google Maps, because I find it interesting to learn of the topography of the area, and knowing such things helps me understand roads much better as well, and why they traverse the land the way they do. Hopefully this issue will be fixed soon.  :-/

It appears for me once in a blue moon.  I hate it when that happens.

It looks like Google Maps has presented a feature where you can view maps during the creation of the Interstate Highway System - except, it looks like, I-22 (which is one of the newest interstates in actuality) has been completed before all the other ones!

Only certain numbers are showing. However, it's not a mathematical sequence; this OEIS search returns no results.
Clinched, plus MA 286

Traveled, plus several state routes

Lowest untraveled: 25 (updated from 14)

New clinches: MA 286
New traveled: MA 14, MA 123

Read the first question on the right side under the map.

Particularly alarming is the (apparent) unwillingness on Google's part to change the name to the correct one. At least with most of these errors, they're temporary.

I love Google Maps and think the criticism is generally overblown.  However, this is pretty embarrassing:

Wow, definitely a programming error, leaving off the last letter of the string.

Is the curved lettering not intentional? A very 'classical' look in my opinion. I like it.

I like it too, but they are dropping the last letter of all these style labels.

Oh no shit. Didn't notice that. Would have had I read your whole post.  :pan:

It was really weird when I clicked that link: it showed the name right at first, and then the last letter vanished after a split second.

I had to find a residential street that has been around for about 6 months now.  Google Maps STILL doesn't show the street -- or the whole subdivision for that matter -- yet Waze got me into that newer development and straight to that street.

On the flip side, Waze is still not the greatest when it comes to identifying street names, or turn-offs to other streets or businesses.

My one reservation with Waze was that street changes were slower to show up compared to Google Maps, so it surprises me to hear that Google is on the slower end for once. You might consider letting them know, but include a link to some proof.

Google can really drag their feet on a change.  I have put in multiple requests to correct their marking of CT 31, including map edit requests.   It is correctly marked as a state route south of US 44, but north of US 44, it all of a sudden is marked as a county route.  Despite telling them that it's the same road and that CT does not have county routes, the change has not been make in any updates released.  It has been the better part of a year and no changes.
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

There's a house near me that's been marked as an Embressy Suites (with that spelling) for about two years now.

Holy crap, some good news regarding Google Maps.  :-o  :-D

I just saw some street-view, which shows very new images from December 2017. As can be seen, these images are very, very, very high-quality. I was caught off-guard and pleasantly surprised to see this beauty, as I was not expecting such clear images, even though they have gotten better over time (to the point where 2007 and 2008 imagery looks relatively quite blurry now). This was extremely nice to see, that's for sure.

And some bad news
https://developers.googleblog.com/2018/05/introducing-google-maps-platform.html

Wait, I'm just very, very lost. I've been looking at it for 20 minutes, but due to the debilitating, racing anxiety I am experiencing, I am having trouble figuring out what is going on (I am reading the same things over and over again but I am not encoding anything or understanding it). Does this mean I have to pay $200 a month just to use Google Maps now? Or is it only $200 for some super-special service. Does this mean that I can't do street-view anymore until I hand over my entire wallet and a little extra? What is the $200 for. Is that the minimum price to use Google Maps for the future, I have no idea. Someone please explain to me.  :wow:  :paranoid:

That message seems to be aimed at developers who are building their applications on the Google Maps database or API, not just users.  I wouldn't worry.  Agree that it's confusingly-written, though.

Think about it this way: Google charging money for Maps would be suicide for their product.

That whole blog post is for outside developers working with the Google platform. There's not going to be any change for the average end-user.
