Looking at Google Maps, I see a reconstruction project on I-10 in the Henderson area. The strange thing about it is that they added a new lane to the Atchafalaya Basin Bridges, but only for the first 200 feet or so on the west end. Any idea what their reason is for doing this?

The project to add the third lane in each direction of I-10 is from the beginning/end of the Atchafalaya Basin bridge (near the Henderson exit) to the interchange with I-49. Either that little piece of the bridge with a third lane is temporary to account for the lane shift, or it's just a short section as two become 3 lanes or the merge down from 3 to 2 going eastbound. I'm surprised the expansion didn't go a little further west to the other metro Lafayette exits.
