Shot these photos yesterday of the initial Wekiva Parkway segment Project Section 4 yesterday:

County Road 435 at the south end of the 3.14-mile segment being built. This at-grade connection to CR 435 is temporary.

Looking southwest from Florida 46 at the north end of Project Section 4. Blue signs posted on both CR 435 and SR 46 tout a "Fall 2014" completion.

What I like is that the future FL 453 spur into Mount Dora from FL 429 nearby is being called the "Systems Interchange."  Whoever thought the name was being ingenious in doing so.

I don't get it. "System interchange" is what see-fucks calls all their tollway-to-tollway interchanges.

So, it looks like they just built two lanes to operate temporarily as a two-way roadway, I'm assuming with no toll. How is this gonna be signed?

OOCEA became the Central Florida Expressway Authority, or CFX for short. Get it? C-fx, see-fux.

How long before SR 429 reaches Interstate 4?

Notice that a TEMP plaque has been added to the SR 429 signs at CR 435 (Mt Plymouth Road):

Pretty cool that they actually include a KMZ file to let you look at the planned construction in Google Earth, makes it way easier than going between PDF and GE all the time to compare construction progress.

Yesterday flaroads, roadman65, I94RoadRunner and I checked out construction of the next phases of the Wekiva Parkway while driving the Lake County segment opened last month. The photos are posted on FB at https://www.facebook.com/aaroads/posts/10154031634272948

Thanks to Brent for compiling the post and researching the status of the current road work.

I drove this new section of FL 429 a week or so after opening.  It's kind of a pointless connection at this time as it goes from nowhere to nowhere.

It is more or less a local connector, but in the time we stopped at the south end to take some photos, we were surprised with how many vehicles were using it. It was not overrun by any stretch, but it is was not devoid of traffic either.

Also saw why this subdivision never went anywhere: https://www.google.com/maps/@28.7072014,-81.5596955,520m/data=!3m1!1e3

We turned down Belgian Street and it led directly to the construction zone.

Also noted that every sign on SR 429 north of the Turnpike is in Clearview, and several small APL's are in place, even on the connector raod to the current north end of SR 414/429.

Is there any point to the 414/429 duplex? Personally, I think it is unnecessary.

Route continuity for drivers between Mt Dora and I-4 at Maitland Boulevard.  Though as Chris pointed out to uson Saturday, the 414 designation could continue north to and replace SR 453 on the future spur to US 441 for even more continuity.

Remember too, that FL 414 was originally supposed to that concurrency solo, but the change in alignment for the whole Wekiva Parkway moved it over.

Also the original plan for the Apopka Bypass was a free FDOT project, but the former OOCEA ended up spearheading it after no funds were allocated to build it from Tallahassee.

Strangely, the plans call for clearview signage. Of course it has been rescinded, and I have never seen it on an FDOT sign before.

Thanks for posting--I've actually been getting caught up with the plans for the CFX sections over the past couple of days, but hadn't realized the project website had draft plans for the FDOT sections.

And actually these would not be the first Clearview signs FDOT has placed on its own infrastructure, though all of the other examples I know of are in connection with CFX.  E.g., FPID 23953535201 (a SR 50 job from the middle of 2014) includes crossroads signs for SR 429 that use Clearview.

System interchange is also a general term for freeway-to-freeway interchange, used in contradistinction to service interchange (providing access to and from surface roads).  Where CFX is a bit weird is in pluralizing it ("systems interchange").

Why is the underpass over Sleepy Bear Lane being built a viaduct on the SB side, but just a typical underpass on the NB side?

It was some design change after their roadway plans were finalized in June 2018, as those plans do not show the extended span. Cannot readily find anything on their site about it either. Perhaps they decided to revise the basin area for water runoff in the vicinity that resulted in the design change.

It may have something to do with the gas pipeline that crosses at an angle.
