Well, not the *entirety*. I don't think there are any plans to reopen "dirt" Mulholland.

That's Mulholland Drive, not Highway.

Nit: The dirt section was part of Mulholland Drive, not Mulholland Highway.

It does seem odd, though, to have a road called something Drive, when you can't drive on it.

Good to know there's going to be a way forward to keep CA 37 above rising sea levels, now that the relevant project is being federally funded, at least partially.

It does seem odd, though, to have a road called something Drive, when you can't drive on it.

Based on some historical maps I've found, it seems modern Mulholland Drive was originally called Mulholland Highway, only switching to "Drive" when the section that connects the Highway to Valley Circle Boulevard was built. Seems to have happened around the same time the northernmost segment of Old Topanga Cyn. Rd. was renamed to Valmar Road (which itself seems to lined up with the Ventura County line, which seems to have shifted since).

The sea level is rising so slowly that all they really have to do is pave it again every few years. (Half kidding.)

Even without sea rise the current two lane Jersey barrier grade just plain sucks and is inadequate.
