People drive too slow in the left lane!

On US 264 I've seen some people drive only 70 mph in the left lane! If you are driving slow, you're supposed to be in the right lane! It's obvious. People don't know how to drive.

Lane choice doesn't have anything to do with what number the needle is pointing to.  All that matters is how fast you're going compared to other drivers.

Does tolbs17 blare his horn for a long time at every driver who upsets him and then post the video to YouTube?

True, I'm not even sure if tolbs17 even drives. (Granted my first post was fully sarcastic)

Either way, I'll plug Left Lane Prius on Facebook again like the other thread since this seems to be a popular topic.

I do drive, just not on a daily basis.

You know, you can legally pass people on the right in most places that aren't Germany, so long as the right-hand lane is clear and you're not speeding.  And it's a lot more efficient and way less bone-headed than tailgating people in the left lane when they aren't going as fast as you'd like.

Regardless of speed (whether it is a the speed on one's speedometer or in relation to other vehicles) one should not be in the left lane unless passing or to access a left exit.

Maybe this is just a Maryland thing, but I often find during congestion that the left lane is where I don't want to be - typically, cars seem to slam the brakes harder and stop for longer while right lane(s) roll along at, say, 10-20 mph.

But if your speed relative to others' is that you're faster than everyone else around you, there's no real reason not to be in the left lane.  It only matters when two people want to use the left lane.

Had that happen on I-75 in Oakland County yesterday. Car was moving at like 70 in the left lane every one was moving to the right to pass him. I'm thinking why be in that lane if you aren't moving highway speeds. Traffic in this area generally moves 80 to 85 mph.

In that case, wouldn't you be passing others then? Hence, using the left lane for its intended purpose.

Not necessarily.  Imagine a rural Interstate with hardly any traffic and nobody within a half-mile of you.  Sure, I still drive in the right lane, but being in the left lane isn't causing any problems.
