I have never left the state of Illinois so I have to assume that my very limited range of experiences is normal and representative of what people experience in other states or countries... when actually my life is not normal; it's distinctly Illinoisan.

Actually, Illinois is probably the least flat state in the Union. I grew up in Chicago but I actually love southern Illinois because it's not flat. Want to see some examples of how not flat Illinois is?

I grew up driving roads like this: https://www.google.com/maps/@39.6053915,-88.1771572,3a,75y,187.18h,91.01t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1spELzgt1DY6lxAUDj9SOjVw!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DpELzgt1DY6lxAUDj9SOjVw%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D270.29248%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656

And this:
https://www.google.com/maps/@38.7680917,-88.6201188,3a,75y,93.4h,84.19t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sjaCORC0xc5Rq0Yk59F6twg!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DjaCORC0xc5Rq0Yk59F6twg%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D359.17566%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656

And this:
https://www.google.com/maps/@41.7074947,-89.8249475,3a,75y,31.98h,84.12t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sIXakuJf9jn_WNJn2B-5LsQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DIXakuJf9jn_WNJn2B-5LsQ%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D337.3568%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656

That third one actually has a tree, so therefore it's basically the Himalayas.

My personal favorite Illinois highway, though:
https://www.google.com/maps/@39.5661877,-107.2693895,3a,75y,280.33h,89.71t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sDh2Sl1_mHjThXPCzRo4JOw!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DDh2Sl1_mHjThXPCzRo4JOw%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.tactile.gps%26w%3D203%26h%3D100%26yaw%3D42.486275%26pitch%3D0%26thumbfov%3D100!7i13312!8i6656

It really is just amazing.

I'm not comfortable with your blanket statements about Illinois being flat, as only 98% of the state is flatter than a hardwood floor.

By the way, in case I didn't mention this, southern Illinois is not flat.

Technically no state is completely flat, every state has at least some minor elevation gain somewhere making them not flat.

I researched flat earth while eating jumbo shrimp inside a sanitary sewer, but all I came up with was military intelligence.

If you shrink down Illinois to the size of a pancake, the pancake still has more terrain variation. So Illinois is flatter than a pancake.

Of course, you can say the same thing about other states, but only Florida is flatter.

So, you guys are saying that non-flat Illinois (I believe we called it dark Illinois in the "other"  thread) beyond the Great Ice Wall?

Roadgeekteen

Even if the earth was flat Illinois would still not be completely flat. A pancake isn't completely flat either.

Flat earthers don't believe that the whole earth is completely flat like the sand dunes in Utah, they just believe that it's not a sphere.

I've learned that this is Rothman's favorite phrase. But what he's getting at is that sand dunes are not flat.

I think he's right. The statement "the earth is flat" refers specifically to whether or not it's a sphere. Terrain is so undeniable that it has never been legitimately called into question.

Like these? Those... are not flat. People go there to slide down them and drive their ATVs up and over the hills.

I think Roadgeekteen was saying the sand dunes aren't flat, although it's a poorly worded sentence.
