According to wunderground.com Fresno hit a new daily record 110F.  Given I'm from Phoenix I normally wouldn't think of something like that as too unusual.  Trouble is my AC has been down the past two weeks and isn't going to be repaired until tomorrow morning.  I got the house down to 84F before I left this morning but I'm expecting 92-95F (we have heavy curtains that seem to keep a lot of heat out) when I get home around 7 PM.  So far my Swamp Cooler has been blunting the bedroom temperatures by probably 5-10F when I run it.

And germane to the previous discussion, no excessive heat warning here either. So a HX of 100° won't do it. I'm a little curious how high it has to get for NWS Norman to issue one (I know they do issue them sometimes!).

NWS Norman's heat alert criteria actually varies depending on where in their forecast area you are. For counties along and east of US 81, excessive heat warnings are issued if either the heat index is 110 or temperature is 105. Heat advisories are issued for heat index of 105 or temperatures of 103.

The criteria are a bit higher for counties west of US 81. Warnings there require temperatures or heat index values of 115 or greater, while advisories need a temperature or heat index of 110.

Huge thunderstorm last night, though like usual it didn't last long. I don't think I've ever heard louder wind than that. This morning was cloudy and humid. As the day went on the clouds went away, and it was our first truly clear afternoon in a while.

68F partly sunny. Claudette's going to pay us a visit some point this week. Mostly rain as it will be transitioning into a mid-latitude cyclone.

106F in the forecast for Fresno today.  My evaporator coil was replaced yesterday so now I'm in a odd state of being so used to the heat that 82F feels cold at night.

Last night a Tornado touched down in DuPage County (IL), specifically Woodridge and Naperville. Lots of property damage, dozens of homes now uninhabitable, several injuries with one critical but no deaths as of yet.

There was either a much smaller tornado or very strong straight line winds in Porter County (IN) with much less severe damage.

We had a derecho go through late last night. Possibly 2 tornadoes from the storm. A dozen homes were leveled on the far southeast side of Naperville. Homes and tree damage was from Naperville to Burr Ridge along the 75th St and 83rd St corridors. Just missed us by 2 miles.

It's been pouring outside around here too.

I got about an inch of rain today, but it seems as if the ground just soaked it right up, because of the lack of rain over the past week or two.

We had our coolest day in 9 days today in Salt Lake. The high temperature was a refreshing ... 95.

We'll most likely break 100 again tomorrow. A better cooldown may be coming for Thursday, with a current forecast high of only 89, but that will probably come with a threat of fire-starting dry thunderstorms. After that, long-range forecasts indicate that temperatures will rise again back into the low 100s range as a high pressure system builds into the Pacific Northwest.

This has to be the first EF3+ rated tornado that has directly hit the Chicagoland area in a while right?

Hmm, I guess Coal City is considered part of the Chicagoland area, though just barely.

Let me rephrase it, when was the last time an EF3+ tornado struck the heart of the Chicagoland area? For purposes here, we will consider the "heart" to be the area from I-80 to the south to IL-47 to the west to the Wisconsin border to the north. I would have to think the Plainfield Tornado of 1990 was the last time using this definition, though I could be wrong.

Quite the opposite here - only in the mid-50's this morning and 60 at the moment, which is unseasonably cool and even feels a bit cold in the wake of a wave of high humidity and 80+ temps.
