The Alsip, IL, water tower on I-294 is red, white and blue, and has become a landmark for people from Indiana traveling to O'Hare, Great America, or Wisconsin.
Indiana: counties 100%, highways 100%

As far as Hollywood studios go, Warner Bros. has that iconic water tower that has been featured in many of its films, including Looney Tunes: Back in Action, and is now a prominent part of its opening sequence.

I think a "cool water tower"  is nearly impossible to create, but it could be done with a slender design and a good paint job.

This water tower in Ypsilanti, Michigan has a rather interesting shape. Built in 1890 on the highest point in the city, still in use today.

Not exactly uncommon type, but I would post this one cause the tower is now history.



It obviously got razed when the factory got leveled that it was part of.
