Looks like the cameras are already up.  They're grey metal boxes and fairly flush with the concrete barriers. Hopefully, if this program is ever extended, they go for the vehicle mounted systems and only enforce when workers are present.

MASTERNC

Well, that didn't take long. It shows why a lot of these work zone cameras are mounted on vehicles that are occupied and can be secured.

(For DE 279)  TRAFFIC ALERT - New Castle County - Rumble Strips Coming to Elkton Road

(For US 113, DE 24, (and maybe or maybe the former DE 30))  TRAFFIC ALERT - Sussex County - Traffic Signal Modifications May Cause Daytime Delays at US 113 & Route 24 Intersection

I am hoping to do 99% of the rest of my DE clinching next weekend pending weather so hopefully I will find out whether DE 30 is still posted or not.

The more I think of it the more I realize DelDOT is borrowing Maryland's sign design in multiple cases. Between using the same work zone speed camera signs, the "Lane Ends"  with arrow signs, and some of the same BGS designs on I-95 with the square corners and exit tabs (all unique), it's too hard to ignore. There's probably no copyright on the designs but you have to wonder if Maryland knows.

Where else are they going to get the sign specs from?

Maybe design their own?  Those specific signs that Maryland uses ubiquitously aren't often used in other states

Due to winter weather changing my birthday roadgeek trip to a western MD/northeast WV/western PA trip, and that US 13 in Chester, PA, is being realigned at the moment, I do not know when I will get to field check DE 30 to see if signage has been removed.  (https://www.aaroads.com/forum/index.php?topic=372.msg2680762#msg2680762)

(For DE 141) New Castle County - DelDOT Announces Completion of Route 141 Projects

But they didn't build the ramp from DE 141 NB to I-295 NB that was part of the original plan.

That quietly fell off the plans a while ago. It's possible they saw the potential disturbance to the marsh for a movement already served by US 13 / 40 as unnecessary and wanted to shuffle that money elsewhere.

Something similar happened at the SR 1 / 7 / 58 interchange along SR 58 a couple years back, the original plans for construction in the area called for...
- Channelizing the right turn lane off the SB SR 7 ramp onto WB SR 58, to prevent traffic from getting to the left turn lanes for Continental Blvd
- Separating the double left turn lanes for Continental Blvd from the thru WB SR 58 lanes with a median
- Adding a second right turn lane at the above ramp to allow traffic to get to the left for Continental Blvd
- Converting the right EB SR 58 thru lane into an option right turn lane, creating a triple right onto SB SR 1 / 7
The project came and went, and the only construction completed was resurfacing the road and rebuilding curbs and sidewalks.

The Washington/Baltimore/Arlington CSA has two Key Bridges, a Minnesota Avenue, and a Mannasota Avenue.

As of Saturday, DE 30 signage has not been removed (at least along the DE 24 concurrency, seeing it there made it clear to me not to bother on the rest that is planned to be removed).

So is the SB 295/SB 95 junction complete?
If so, nice, but IMO I-95 in DE needs to be 6 lanes from 295 to DE-1, then 5 lanes to the Service Station.
Any plans or possibility this happens?
It needs 2 lanes from 495 and 3 lanes from 295, for starters.

When it comes down to it, it's just a bad pinchpoint. 4 lanes crossing the Bridge, 3 lanes from 495, 3 lanes from 95. There's some variables with traffic jumping onto 13, 40 & 141, but it's never really going to have the right number of lanes, or the proper lane allocation at all times, between 295 and DE 1.
So what would be the ideal setup for the junction?

the ideal, pie-in-the-sky, no-worries-about-budget-let-alone-property-acquisition setup would likely include flyovers from I-495 and I-295 to a braided approach to the DE 1 interchange, which would carry all of the traffic headed in that direction and reduce the pressure on the through lanes.
Got a visual?

nope.

I'm sure if one of the design-engineering-oriented folks were interested, they could draw up the concept and polish any gaps i overlooked. however, given how utterly impractical it would be from a budgetary perspective, i doubt it's worth the effort.

I can't seem to think how that would work, as I am not familiar with a braided approach.
So how would it work both NB and SB I-95 between 1/295?

US 9 (Kings Highway) from SR 1 to Freeman Highway Online Virtual Public Workshop: February 23rd, 2022

The documents for the US 9 Widening are up on the project website.

Looks like the engineers who love roundabouts had a hand in the design here.

At the meeting Wednesday, there were a lot of complaints about a lack of left-turns because I guess people do not realize that they could turn around in the roundabouts.

DelDOT's going all-in on roundabouts in the Lewes area, there's roundabouts planned at...

  • Plantation / Beaver Dam Roads @ US 9
  • Wescoats Road @ Marsh Road
  • New Road @ Nassau Road
  • Janice Road (the future SB SR 1 frontage road) @ New Road
  • Janice Road @ Minos Conaway Road
  • Warrington Road @ east of SR 24 (at least according to Google Maps)
And if I had to guess, the future widening projects along US 9, SR 23, and SR 1D radiating out from Five Points, and the Mulberry Knoll Road and Airport Road extensions are going to include a number of their own roundabouts.

southbound: at a very high level, exits to DE 1 would depart I-95 and I-495 prior to their merge point and form a roadway running parallel to I-95. an exit to DE 1 from I-295 prior to its merge with 95 would join that roadway, which would pass over or under the other ramps between its origin and DE 1.

applying the concept northbound is left as an exercise for the reader.

note that a similar (but smaller-scale) approach is used on I-95 SB in MD approaching MD 200, getting WB MD 200 traffic off of the I-95 mainline well in advance of the actual interchange.
