Part 2 of Day 4 - Exploring parts of Old US 66 in Arizona - Including button copy signs, a replica 66 shield that some will like/some will not, you'll stand on the corner in Winslow, AZ, and you may want to spend a night in a Wigwam in Holbrook.

Winslow's really coming along.  The last time I was there (Sept '09), there was fencing around a vacant lot on The Corner.

That replica is passable, but in the two antique shops kitty-cornering the same intersection, you can find much better ones.

Also, this original one is there:

that is the only authentic ROUTE 66 shield out there - a Mojave County Highway Department product.

Somewhat non-roads - but knowing there are a few train enthusiasts in the forum - last week I did a photo set with the New Hope Valley Railway here in Raleigh.

Thanks for sharing.  I was down there in '08 and enjoyed myself.

Engine 17 about to cross a trestle.

Flagg Coal Company #75 (0-4-0) was in the house as well.

Thanks!  Was that during their special steam engine event?  The folks at the NHVR were telling me about it.  The next time I visit (I only live about 30 minutes away) I will get to the platform at Buffalo Creek that you took the top photo from.

Everyone with the New Hope Valley Railway were just amazingly nice an accommodating.

As an aside, No. 17 will be making its first out of state trip at the West Virginia Rail Festival in late June.  Wish i had the time to go!

Yeah, it was their special steam event.  We got the special "railfan" package -- definitely worth it IMHO.
