Rent a pickup...U-Haul, Home Depot, Menards...or whatever Canadian equivalents will rent you a pickup for 20-40$ or so

Am I the only one who thinks he was playing it smart?  He avoided using local streets and country roads, which inevitably would have narrower lanes and absent shoulders.  He's being safe by using a highway with wide lanes and shoulders, thus creating more of a cushion between himself and the rest of the traffic.
