Sometimes the MUTCD is not enough: municipalities take to custom designs to get their point across (and the point is usually "slow dowwwwwn").

On Industrial Way in San Carlos, CA: "THIS IS NOT A FREEWAY / SLOW DOWN" (https://goo.gl/maps/EM2WqTB2ccz)

Belleville Way, Cupertino, CA: "SPEEDING TICKETS AVAILABLE AHEAD" (https://goo.gl/maps/2eP4j9kPSFr) which is a bit more jovial

In many work zones:

The old Breezewood "You slow down" sign.

And then you have Colorado.

That's a classic! I have a picture somewhere of that one. It's more like YOU slow down! With the big finger pointing at you and everything!

Actually, those are in Sunnyvale, CA.

There's another one of these types of signs on Bernardo Ave.  It reads "SPEEDING = $87 FINE + Traffic School" (https://goo.gl/maps/wrBnaL9z25q).

If I owned a dam and decided to donate it to charity, would I be giving a dam? I'm sure that might be a first because no one really gives a dam.

Man, if there's anything that annoys me more than residents nagging people for their speed. Here's some useful advice - go bitch to the local traffic engineer about traffic calming.

How about "illegal to leave highway to avoid traffic signal" from EB 75th Street at IL 53 in DuPage County?  Streetview

Maybe some day, someone will actually find a picture of this unicorn. Don't get me wrong, I do believe it was real, but I'm starting to doubt I will ever see it.

Others have asked about this sign before, too.

"Complete Stops FREE / Rolling Stops $111 / Your Choice" posted below a stop sign in Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.

"Tailgating Kills / Leave Some Space" posted in a few spots on Highway 401 in Ontario.

"SLOW DOWN" sign under a speed limit sign.

https://www.google.com/maps/@43.1062772,-77.7323426,3a,30y,190.43h,75.52t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sTRRgEGKqbYyWj3op2djfCA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

I get the "Slow Down" part for people who are speeding, but why is the sign also there for people who are not speeding? :spin:

Signs like that are not uncommon in New York

The tricky part of that is that while there are surely pictures out there, the vast majority (if not all) would have been taken with film cameras, so you'd need to find someone who took a picture, remembers taking it, still has either the picture or a negative, knows where it is, and is willing to scan it.

REV IT DOWN sign in New Hope, PA, which is sound advice because New Hope Police are a bit like Princeton in the regard that going 2 over is too fast.

Those are all over the Philly suburbs.

My favorite is this guy at the foot of the Platt Bridge in South Philly:

https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9065017,-75.1938214,3a,15y,233.89h,85t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s7lWlo4ZzF6XfcVY8co4Lbw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

The bridge has a posted speed limit of 35 but everyone goes well above it.

^ Is this meant to warn of a 6% downgrade of a 6-mile length?

I think a different layout would have been better, and less naggingly. They could put these at however many repetitions are deemed necessary:

6% DOWNGRADE
FOR 6 MILES
xx MILE(S) AHEAD

Graininess is because this is a photo of a photo that appeared in the newspaper.
