I thought about this right after I posted, because I can think of one instance that has three unique shields on it. The spirit of the game is to let as many people participate as possible. I'm opening the floor for discussion on this. Possible options include:

1. Allow the picture to count for all of the shields posted.
2. Require the person posting to declare which shield he is posting. If he doesn't, the moderator will make the call.
3. Let the picture stand, and let other posters post other pictures of the same shields.
4. Modify the 5-post rule to account for multiples. (If your picture has two unique signs, you have to wait 10 posts, etc.)

I think it should count for just one, and the poster specifies which he/she intends it to count for.

I'm thinking it can count for all new shields in the picture, and you're not penalized for any repeat shields that also happen to appear (as long as there's some new content).

Also, how about an option to post a previously-submitted shield, solely for the purpose of improving on a distant or blurry photo?

Here's a better one. (Hoping my DNS fix has propagated enough so this shows up for most.)

How about this unusual old shield (probably long gone) for Nova Scotia's Cabot Trail? It reflects that the Trail was and is unsigned trunk route 30, and trunk routes in NS usually are signed with US route-like markers. The Trail is more commonly signed with scenic route markers, which I also photographed.

Old CT style, only ever used near the Merritt.

I don't mind doing it just to be polite. Should the person who is doing it get the credit for the shield?

I think the original poster should keep the credit.

The lone County Road in Nevada (let alone anywhere) signed in this style is Clark County 215 encircling Las Vegas:

This isn't in the spirit of the game. Yes, it is unique, but it has no meaning or significance. (For example, the Wis-32 sign posted earlier: The markings have a meaning.) It looks like a design that the state or county might duplicate for similar highways (215 and I-215 is the loop around Las Vegas.)

If you can demonstrate that there is a unique significance or meaning to this design, and it's not just something cute that Clark County put up for kicks, then I will allow it.

Lake Superior Circle Tour picture in Manitowoc, WI.  The sign should be a Lake Michigan Circle Tour sign and this one was posted in error.   Lake Superior is hundreds of miles away from Manitowoc.

Well the previous shield design for Clark County 215 used a "rocky" type yellow diamond. Well, just figured it out, its the symbol for Clark County:

I suppose if it were like New York's County outline signs, it might not qualify, since there is more than one route number using said design, but Clark County 215 is the lone route with this style. You make the rules, so I'll defer to your judgement  :hmmm:
...and I will withdraw it if is still does not count.

Alexander P Kapp gives us the TT Mountain Course

^ The Isle of Man TT is one helluva road course.

South Georgia Parkway is the only way to find pentagon shields in the Peach State. County-maintained roads usually have no shields, other than the occassional green strips posted behind the stop signs. The Parkway signs can be found in scattered places along GA Route 520. It seems like a particularly lazy design, because it appears some sort of logo, number, or device is missing from the center.

I'm ruling that it does not count on the assumption that Clark County would choose to sign other routes in this manner and just hasn't done so. But I will give you props for the research.

This might be considered a double-post.  I can't believe the Great River Road hasn't been posted yet!  Also, here's a shield for the Illinois River Road.  These are two scenic byways that basically parallel the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers, respectively.  Photo taken by me, I want to say February 2007.
Avatar is the last interesting highway I clinched.

Alright, so how come that Scenic US 412 marker posted way above count, and not this? And what about that CT 15? Even if those shields are unique to their perspective roads (although I'm sure there are other scenic US route shields similar to the one posted and there *were* other route examples of the CT outline shields that used to exist), you said it yourself about the CR 215, "[They] would choose to sign other routes in this manner and just hasn't done so."

CR 215 is the only road that has shields like this, yet you're disqualifying it because of the very distant fact that Clark County could put up more. It's not my game, but c'mon man...
