The "Hello Neighbor" state route marker challenge

Here's a new challenge game that I thought of. Let's see how far we can go with it. Due to the nature of the game, photos from Alaska and Hawaii will have to be omitted, but that's OK.

The general premise is that a photo of a state route marker will be posted. The next poster will then post a photo of a state route marker of the next highest number from a state adjoining the location of the previous post. You should identify the state, since someone who posts a photo from Tennessee could be followed up by someone playing a circular route marker from either of two neighbors (Kentucky or Mississippi).

Photos must be from your personal collection. No Google Street View, DOT photologs, etc. The exception is that if we get stuck for 24 hours, you may post a photo from another roadgeek's website, Facebook page, Flickr collection, and so on.

Preference is for ground-mounted markers. BGS route markers are discouraged but allowable in dire circumstances.

I'll start with KY 1.

Next poster must play a State Route 2 sign from either Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois or Indiana.

Have fun. Let's see how far we can get with this and how many states we can get in play; I'm thinking somewhere well into the triple digits until we run out of options.

I like this idea!  Let's jump first toward the east to West Virginia, with a 2:

Clinched, minus I-93 (I'm missing a few miles and my file is incorrect)

Traveled, plus US 13, 44, and 50, and several state routes

I will be in Burlington VT for the eclipse.

I wanted to alert everyone of an imminent trap here...do NOT take us north or we'll be surrounded by states that US6 passes through, meaning they won't have any state route 6's to speak of.  Unless we go up to PA and back to MD for MD-6.

Shall we continue anyway?

The posted PA 5 entry is disqualified per the original rules. I'll take us back to West Virginia from Maryland with WV 5.

So there's no danger of the game ending at 6. Options include Maryland, Virginia and Kentucky.

This would be a good chance for North Carolina to become part of this challenge.

The problem I can see with this is that large numbers of users are going to be sitting out hoping the game gets anywhere close to them. I've been to Virginia and the surrounding states exactly once, so I'm just going to have to sit here and hope that it drifts toward OK/KS/MO where all of my photos were taken.

We need to get this thread back down south or I'm not going to be able to contribute very much beyond that lone Wisconsin 69 sign that I have.

Now we're in my neck of the woods (not really): Minnesota Route 15

Math bonus: all shields are multiples of 15; and this is in the middle of a stretch of 3 consecutive overlaps along MN 60, all of which (4, 30, 15) are factors of 60.

It's a shame the old Road Sign Math site isn't still active, because this would be a perfect candidate.

Anyway, back to Wisconsin for 16.

Let's get more toward the south so we have more options...IL-17
Even numbers may get difficult in states near US18, US20, etc.

I know of an 18 in Indiana and Missouri.

For future planning:

The only numbers available for Maine are 10 (already passed), 17 (already passed), 27, 32, 86, 102, 103, 105, 107-129 (large range), 131, 136, 141, 150, 151, 152, and 154.

EDIT: Why was a WI 58 sign here for a minute or two?

Idea for a rule, to help get more states involved: Someone can override the last-played number with a number from a state that hasn't been played yet. (Rule does not apply if the number that would be overriden is itself the first of its state.)

Idea for a rule to put Hawaii in play: For the purposes of this game, Hawaii is considered to be adjacent to California, Oregon and Washington.

Should we even bother with Alaska? The last number it has left is 98.
