Title: The Streets of Fort Smith
Post by: TheArkansasRoadgeek on August 31, 2017, 03:28:23 PM
This may or may not be a continuous thread, but as of now I have had success in getting Fort Smith to notify AHTD (ARDOT for you pirates  :bigass: :banghead:) about North A St. from North 2nd St. to North 5th St. and about North B St. from North 5th to the intersection of AR 255  (even though B is officially 255 by Fire Station No. 1). Any other concerns may be dropped here! I'd be glad to help out around my community and state! I had them look into a few other streets, as well! So, those of you who travel North B or A AHTD will be looking into them, but others will be handled through the city itself.

I hear so much about how people think Fort Smith doesn't listen or is shitty, but they just need to get up off their ass and voice their concerns! Everyone I have come into contact with (AHTD and the City of Fort Smith) have at least listened! (Now, wether they do as intended, which was to pass my concerns on to see if they could get fixed is still in progress). But, yes you should shortly see some patch and/or resurface work happen, soon! Yay!  :bigass:

US 71 south of AR 400 (roughly 13 miles north of Alma). Quit patching it and fix it!

They need to sign their damn highways. US 71 should be fully signed along I-540 and I-40 or else it should be returned to US 71B/US 64/AR 162. Speaking of US 71B, it needs to be signed better between I-540 in Van Buren to I-40 in Alma, or it should end at I-540/US 71. Or, since it's AHTD, it could also just end at US 64 in downtown Fort Smith. At least clear up the confusion.

You're right, US 71 is barely signed! I'm giving it a while in between requests, but I can ask why that is and see if that can't be fixed. Is there any missing exit signs or general guide signage? I have known there isn't a lot of reassurance signage.

US 71 disappears northbound at I-40 and doesn't appear again until it exits off of I-40 in Alma, with the exception of a sign at the northern end of I-540 (I haven't been through there in years and it might be gone now) with directions to I-40 east and US 71 north. It should be signed on every trailblazer and preferably, at every intersection. If Oklahoma can do it, Arkansas can too.

71 is posted on the exit signs for I-540 along I-40,  but no along 540 AT ALL. Not NB or SB .

Since 71B now ends at 64 in Alma, there should be trailblazers along 162/Fayetteville Rd directing motorists to 71B (which is still posted along the ramps on I-40)

BTW I see AHTD did repave 71 north of Winslow. I'm sure they'll tear it up again when the new Woolsey Bridge is finished.

71B ends at 64 in Alma? That doesn't make sense. If you are talking about the stretch of old 71 from I-40 to 64, that is now AR 162.
