What are some common nicknames for retail businesses?

Some of the more popular ones are...

  • McDonald's -> Mickey D's
  • Wal-Mart -> Wally World
  • Target -> Tar-Zhay (think of Target with a French accent)
  • Kroger (grocery) -> Kay-Roger's

I live in Cincinnati, where Kroger is headquartered, and I have NEVER heard anyone call it Kay-Rogers.  A lot of people do call it KrogerS, which drives some other people crazy.

SkyPesos

Not a popular one, but I sometimes call Walmart "Malwart"  or "Walfart"

Waterburger (I hear this quite a lot, but it's said out of fondness, not out of hate)

Where I go to university in Wisconsin, people refer to grocery chain Piggly-Wiggly as "The Pig".
Their ads say "Shop the Pig."

Takumi

I hear Wawa often pronounced as "Wawa's."

A local car show used to be held weekly at a shopping center that had a Cato Fashions, and was widely known as the "Cato's"  meet.

I tongue-in-cheek refer to a local car importer as Japanese Cheapskates. (Buy a Toyota, they said. They don't have problems like Nissans, they said.)

Never knew that. I don't really see any ads from them.

Listen to a Packer game on the radio.  Then you'll hear one. ;)
"That's just like... your opinion, man."

ErmineNotyours

I tried out a new Blockbusters when I move to my current city.  They claimed I never returned certain videos, even though one of them was back on the shelf.  I never went there again and referred to them as "Cocksuckers".  And now they're out of business.  Couldn't happen to a better company.

Tim Horton's => Timmies

That one has made it's way across the border as well. Not sure if we picked it up from Canada or if it happened more organically... but it fits either way!  :)

I am surprised the Convenience Store Chain Kum and Go don't get nicknamed due to the porn slang of the first part of the name.

Then Sheetz in VA and NC and parts of PA and WV, get named Shitz due to some not liking their products and such. Though I had their pizza in Smithfield , NC and I have to say not bad for a convenience store.

Then Run From The Border for Taco Bell I have heard.
Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

Casey's General Store reminds me of Casey Kasem.

I already mentioned back in the day I know Facebook as "Fakebook".

Then there are the former names of businesses still widely used. There's a grocery chain local to me that is still widely known as "Aldi" despite not having had that name for 20 years now and not having relation with the German chain either.
@jpi calls Cracker Barrel "The Barrel"
And my mother calls everything with "-ies" in it
Weggies --> Wegmans
Greenies --> Green Hills SM - Small grocery store in DT Syracuse.
Most of my shortening of places are used in a way that simplifies this thread:
ONH - Oscar N Harris - Mayor of Dunn (now :ded:)
More of this will be added later
Back from my break, here's some more.
EPT - EmpointCo, my business name, a software company that also provides hospitality services (NOT rooms)
JM - Jersey Mike's - Sub chain in the US, now open in Dunn
PTM LP - Another term for Sheetz (used in deed references; unknown meaning)
HC - Harnett County
CTL - Centurylink
GA - Garfield (a stereotypical cat)
GF - Garfield and Friends (tv show that ran from 1988-94)
SP - Southern Place (subdivision that was going to be my parent's house, never went through)
CAR - Carolina Panthers (football team in Charlotte)
BUF - Buffalo Bills (football team in Buffalo)
WV023 - Comfort Inn Aikens Center (hotel in Martinsburg WV, see Mburg below; used for a stop for GNYT)
NY589 - Sleep Inn And Suites Airport SYR (hotel in Syracuse, NY; mainstay hotel for all GNYT operations; owned by Al Barbagallo, has restaurant onsite, gas station)
SYR - Syracuse, NY (large city in CNY)
CNY - Central NY
GNYT - Great New York Trip (trip name since 2016, was originally unnamed before becoming BNYT, now GNYT)
BWW - Buffalo Wild Wings (sports bar in US)
ARG - Arby's (used on receipts; a roast beef restaurant chain in the US)
AFD - Area Forecast Discussion (a discussion for weather geeks like me from NWS)
SVR - Severe Thunderstorm Warning (used for storms (and rarely without lightning (only during the winter)) that exceed 58mph wind speeds, and quarter size hail)
TOR - Tornado Warning (used for storms that form tornadoes)
PNS - Public Info Statement (used for info like weekly testing on NWS NWR)
RAH - Raleigh NC (shortcode for NWS Raleigh; WFO in Raleigh's NC State Campus)
WWUS - Warning Header (W means warning, and US is our country)
SVRRAH - see SVR and RAH
There is more shortcodes I can give you via PM, just send me a request if you want more of this.  :D

CNGL-Leudimin

I know all 122 NWS shortcodes by memory :sombrero:. I even use their county warning areas as divisions of the country, and ideally I would do so disregarding States. But one cannot simply ditch the current States.
Supporter of the construction of several running gags, including I-366 with a speed limit of 85 mph (137 km/h) and the Hypotenuse.

Please note that I may mention "invalid" FM channels, i.e. ending in an even number or down to 87.5. These are valid in Europe.

Fiat is a strange name to begin with. The word "fiat" (not an acronym) basically means that it's not actually worth anything.
