I almost wonder if TDOT's just forgotten about it, given how inconsistently it can be signed (including having a mix of primary and secondary shields, IIRC).
It's all fun & games until someone summons Cthulhu and brings about the end of the world.

I also collect traffic lights, road signs, fans, and railroad crossing equipment.

We're getting pretty close to being completely faded on this sign. MD-214 just east of I-95/495. No recent pics, but I drove by recently and its pretty bad.

The original sign was actually a brown background.  The wear and tear has turned this sign into a weird green/brown color and does make the writing a bit hard to see.

This sign dates back to the mid-1970s.

I don't know what the sign says, but I know that the rule applies to the whole lot!

Someone should write 6" above the arrow.

This is supposed to be a sign directing people to the local storm shelter in Valley Head, AL:

ALDOT's been replacing a lot of these fading shields on the older signage with new reflective sheeting patches with the shields printed-on, though it appears they haven't quite gotten to these ones yet.

Double post, but I spotted this pretty well worn-out sign in Glencoe, AL, yesterday while out shooting the ATN. The remnants of the lettering show-up pretty decently in these photos, but in person it was pretty much illegible.

Ain't really a road sign, but when I was out at Control Point Irvington on the NS Memphis District East End a few days ago, I noticed that the control point signs for it was pretty well sun-bleached to the point that it's nearly illegible on both sides. I suspect these signs are original to when this passing siding was put in back in the early-2000s:

I just remembered this old sign I stumbled across on a railfanning trip I took last Friday:

IMG_4727 by freebrickproductions, on Flickr

IMG_4728 by freebrickproductions, on Flickr

IMG_4731 by freebrickproductions, on Flickr

It's a bit hard to make-out, but it appears that it originally read:
GEORGIA LAW
STOP
UNSAFE RR CROSSING

No doubt this sign originally dates back to before any gated signals were at this particular crossing, but it seems it was forgotten about decades ago after the Southern Railway initially upgraded the crossing with gated signals all the way back in the 1970s*! I think these signs were unique to Georgia, I certainly don't recall seeing any examples of any others in any other state quite like this one. I think at least one other example may still survive elsewhere in Georgia, but I can't say for certain.

*Based on what I can make-out of the equipment on the previous signals here in the older street view imagery here from 2008, and, no, the sign wasn't any more legible back then either.
