Well, by "can't quite put my finger on" I mean, in instances where NMDOT has a sign there that is "correct", it tends to suck in a way that Oklahoma signage doesn't.
Some NMDOT practices I saw that I couldn't imagine Oklahoma doing, but I'm not sure why I can't imagine Oklahoma doing it:
- Two consecutive off ramps to the same frontage road with the same signed exit number
- A gore point sign with the same thin aluminum and square perforated posts as a conventional-road sign, with just the text "EXIT/XXX" and no arrow
- A two-lane pullthru sign with a single arrow pointed directly at the lane line
One thing I can put my finger on is that directional banners appear to be entirely optional in New Mexico, even on Interstates.
