Quote from: TheCatalyst31 on October 21, 2024, 12:44:03 AMI'm used to Wisconsin's counties putting up non-standard county highway shields, but this one at US 12/WIS 16 in Lyndon Station might be the worst I've seen. They tried to combine the destination sign with the shield, making it look like Reedsburg has city highways in a completely different city.

I cannot think about "HH" without thinking about Hulk Hogan. I would assume he designed this abomination?

If he did, then I guess Triple H knew how to follow a sign spec for his highway.

Or, someone's been told they're "chosen" in a fantasy/sci-fi movie...

Even though it only has one issue, this sign I spotted earlier today definitely belongs here:

At speed this was impossible to read. Is that squished Series A? Who in their right mind approved this?

It is actually Series D squished to about half of Series A width.

Typically, I give construction signage a free pass.  But that one is just TOO awful to not qualify for this thread.

So, according to my friend who works as a contractor for NDDOT, they're planning to "upgrade" the signage for exit 159 on I-94 in Bismarck. Well, look at what they're going to replace one of them with.

That might actually be the worst sign design I've ever seen. Like, how TF does that happen?

Please update us in case no one realizes how dogshit this is, or if someone realizes this is dogshit and it never makes it past planning stage.

I don't know, but Twelfth Street Neon sounds like an awesome name for bar, or for a band.

It will be interesting to see if that actually makes it to the field looking like that.

I was going to find some glitzed-out building on 12th Street here in Vegas for you, but as it turns out most of 12th Street's spot in the grid is occupied by Maryland Parkway. The two short sections that aren't are both full of apartment buildings (one of which is a government housing project). So no dice.

(Las Vegas's numbered streets are kind of strange because they only go up to 30, and many of them have been renamed to something else. Famous Las Vegas Boulevard started out life as 5th Street. There are also lettered streets, but those are in a completely different part of town and have to do with the fact that there were two different people attempting to found Las Vegas at the same time. The lettered-streets townsite failed and ended up becoming the literal "wrong side of the tracks". Notably, they're on the west side of the tracks; normally the "wrong side" was the east side because that was where prevailing winds blew the smoke from the locomotives.)

Gnutella

Am I the only one bothered by the way the 6's look on this exit sign on I-75 southbound near Tifton, GA?

Apparently, it looks ridiculous going northbound too.

Somehow the counter spaces inside the 6 ended up mis-centered in the glyph. Sloppy application of vinyl film, is my guess.

Out of interest, do you happen to have a project number?

As Exit 159 is in the thick of the Bismarck built-up area, I can see a design like this happening under local agency supervision.  It has clearly been done in SignCAD and NDDOT has standardized on GuideSign for its own work.

That looks to me like a normally designed sign that was then rendered to an image on a computer that didn't have the correct font.

Except the exit tab is too small for the correct font/size (and it shouldn't be centered).  And that doesn't explain the out of proportion shields.
