Stop! In the name of AAA!

What was the deal with these? I remember some stop signs around here that had the AAA logo at the bottom. They lasted into the 1980s. They were red but they were embossed, so I'm guessing they were posted in the 1950s.

There was also an embossed, square, yellow school speed limit sign near me with the AAA logo that lasted until 2013 or 2014. It was old then.
Might as well face it, pooing is cool

Many of the AAA chapters posted road signage as a service to motorists in the early days, sometimes as late as the 1950s. I have (and no doubt Max and other have) ACSC and CSAA-posted signage here in California (i.e., southern and northern California).

ACSC and CSAA were far more prolific than their names suggest; being private organizations they weren't limited to one state. Accordingly, they both posted signs along auto trails all over the southwest quadrant of the country. I have seen photographic evidence of ACSC signs with Sierra Blanca, Texas as a destination, and CSAA posted signs as far east as central Kansas. ACSC even dabbled in posting signs in Mexico for a bit.
