One-way dead ends

Right now, the western half of Middle St. in Lowell MA is an inbound one-way dead end. It's always one way, but right now, the street it normally ends at is under construction, so you can't exit there. Cars have had to turn around and go against the one-way rule.

Does anyone know of any other one-way dead ends?

Only temporary ones kind of like you described.

Growing up, one of the streets by my elementary school was a one way going in, with a stop sign going out. Locals simply treated it as a one way during the school day and 2 way at other times. They've since revamped the signage to be more proper there.

A few years ago during some heavy rains with some local flooding, Walnut St/IL 13 EB/One Way in Carbondale on the east side of town was flooded out and closed for a section

We handled it locally pretty well, using Main St/IL 13 WB/One Way as the typical WB Left Lane became a de facto EB lane to get around the flooded out few blocks. Didn't even need police or an arrow board. Normal WB traffic used the middle and right lanes and EB used the normal left lane

Gee, the Google driver risked his freedom, fortune, and reputation by driving in there anyway.

Or maybe the Do Not Enter just means Get Off My Lawn for the house it's in front of.

Rothman

I don't think the Google driver risked anything by driving down that cul-de-sac and the Do Not Enter sign is just to keep thru traffic from mistaking it as a through road.

Because the "Dead End" and "No Outlet" signs don't make that clear.

Ah, if only everyone read signs like roadgeeks...

I'm guessing the Do Not Enter sign is a leftover. It appears that the cul-de-sac might once have gone through from River Rd. If you go all the way to the end, you can see the sidewalk still curving around off River. In which case it was essentially a slip lane from River Rd. to North St. And I betcha the adjacent property owners petitioned to close it.

If ya go back in GSV the Do not enter sign isn't there in 2012.

This is beyond stupid, because then how would you get out? By backing up?
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? The Cubs are gonna win today!

I think that the Do Not Enter sign is there to discourage people from driving down that street not that it's a one way street.

Thread's going in circles now...or is stuck in a cul-de-sac. :D

I think how you get in is the bigger question given the direction the "do not enter" sign is pointed.

That's stretching the definition of No Outlet. There's an outlet one block away, which is two-way. It correctly has a No Outlet sign. (Monmouth Junction NJ).

I guess you'd better like that house that's for sale, because you're going to end up staying there.   :-D
