I guess the Conn DOT have a lot of extra time on their hands. They make these little useless changes adding "13 Miles" to the bottom of the I-91 sign for Bradley Field, adding exit numbers to the Route 7 expressway along with the Route 202 expressway, and putting up new Welcome signs at the state line. They used to just change the governor's name but now they have replaced some of the signs completely, including Danbury. If you notice, the sign used to read Connecticut Welcomes You, Dannel P. Malloy Governor, and now the sign is Welcome To Connecticut, Dannel P. Malloy Governor.

I did a little project once, can't you believe that out of the 58 state borders in Connecticut, only 28 have welcome signs. And even more interesting, within a week of the new governor, all of those signs were switched immediately.

58 crossings to/from Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island? Start with I-84 in Danbury and Union, I-91 in Enfield, I-95 in Greenwich and North Stonington, I-395 in Thompson, CT Route 15 (Merritt Parkway) in Greenwich, US Route 6 in Danbury and Killingly, US Route 5 in Enfield...well that's 10 of them anyways! :)

highwayroads

Yes, the 58 state line borders. Sorry my bad, I meant the 58 state route borders of Connecticut. Welcome signs are not on back roads.

The Route 104 crossing is in Stamford, not Greenwich. And indeed, there is no "Welcome to Connecticut" sign, but there is a small standard ConnDOT issue "Stamford - Town Line" (easy to miss).

CT 137 didn't have one in 2008 when the Street View image was taken, but it definitely has one now.

Meanwhile, I-684 (which is two crossings, not one - an missing item in your list) has signs informing you that you are entering Connecticut, but they are put up by NYSDOT (who also maintains the portion of the road within CT)

Oh, and NY 120A makes another four crossings (none signed - again, all maintained by NYSDOT), which brings your total back to 58. :sombrero:
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

highwayroads

I don't mean town line signs. I am referring to the official state welcoming sign which is blue with the governor's name on them.

And I know I am missing I-684, that stretch of Connecticut is covered by New York, so of course there would be no signs!

highwayroads

Yes, my mistake. Route 104 is in Stamford.

Perfxion

That part of North Stamford wishes it is Greenwich. But Long Ridge Road is all in Stamford.

I just checked Google Maps Street View for the US Route 7 crossing at the CT/MA line. It showed a blue welcome sign on the Connecticut side with the "North Canaan TOWN LINE" plate under the sign. However, the Massachusetts story book town line sign incorrectly said "Entering Canaan, CT". Whoops!

Also, WVIT-TV (NBC) channel 30 of New Britain/Hartford was mentioning accidents which were related to the 2-3 inches of rain we FINALLY got last night and this morning. One sentence said "...a crash near exit 1 on Route 7 in Salisbury...". Huh?

highwayroads

Kevin, I absolutely have no on earth idea what was on that person's mind that said Exit 1 in Salisbury.

How about this? The actual town is North Canaan, but the town center sign has "Canaan". The actual town of Canaan is south down Route 7/63 from 44. The little neighborhood of Canaan is "Falls Village".

North Canaan and Canaan are separate municipalities. Just like Hartford and New Britain are. Even Google Maps can back me up here:

I know there is an expressway section of US Route 7 in the Danbury area...but in Salisbury? I highly doubt it!  :-D

I take CT 15 is now being converted to mile based exits?

Not for a few more years.  This would most likely be Exit 82 in a mile based system.  The exits on the Hartford portion most likely would be:

CT 99: 79
I-91 South: 80
Brainard/Airport Rd: 81A NB, 81 SB
I-91 North (NB ONLY): 81B
US 5/CT 2 (NB)/E River Dr: 82
Silver Lane (NB ONLY): 83

Yes, you'd have a situation where 80 comes before 81 SB, but CT is trying to avoid suffixes as much as possible, and this seems the best way to minimize it. To really minimize them, they could make CT 99 78, 91 South 79, Brainard/Airport 80, and 91 North 81, but it would be off by almost 2 miles (junction is at MP 79.65).
Interstates I've clinched: 97, 290 (MA), 291 (CT), 291 (MA), 293, 295 (DE-NJ-PA), 295 (RI-MA), 384, 391, 395 (CT-MA), 395 (MD), 495 (DE), 610 (LA), 684, 691, 695 (MD), 695 (NY), 795 (MD)

Those numbers are a holdover from when there was a planned freeway connection between the Wilbur Cross Parkway and the Wilbur Cross Highway. They actually used to continue along I-84 in East Hartford all the way to Union.

Massachusetts stopped including officials names to entering, welcome, and project signs in 2004, at the direction of then Governor Romney.  The signs are nameless to this day.

Because I-84 past East Hartford was previously dual signed as I-86 and CT-15 prior to 1984, that section continued Route 15's exit numbering. What is now Exit 74 at the Massachusetts state line was formerly Exit 106. In 1984, the I-86 and CT-15 designations were replaced with I-84 along this section, and exits were renumbered according to I-84's numbering sequence.
2-d Interstates traveled:  4, 5, 8, 10, 15, 20, 24, 25, 27, 29, 35, 39, 40, 41, 43, 45, 49, 55, 57, 64, 65, 66, 69, 70, 71, 72, 74, 75, 76(E), 77, 78, 81, 83, 84(W), 85, 87(N), 89, 90, 91, 93, 94, 95

2-d Interstates Clinched:  12, 22, 30, 37, 44, 59, 80, 84(E), 86(E), 238, H1, H2, H3, H201

Also I remember US 44 continued along the Wilbur Cross Highway with the current US 44 through Mansfield was US 44 Alternate.
