It's been a while, but I think I've found some ripe salad. Got some good variety too. Charleston, MO.

Quite a variety on that pole, too.

Road Hog

I expect more of these in MO because of its propensity for signing different highways at the same intersection. In this case the duplex, combined with an interatate loop and interstate trailblazer, adds the Italian tomato to the top of the mix.

This is way too much.

Just how many shields can one comprehend.

This would make for a good sign to redesign. I might have to tackle this one.

If there weren't really that many different highways, ramps, and such in that area, it would be unnecessary salad.  With all the twists, turns, and choices there, good luck making any of those signs any simpler.

If it didn't have those airport and turnpike logos, it really doesn't seem that bad.

What bothers me more is putting the state highway in between the interstate and US highway shields. Should be on the right.

What the KY 7/KY 550 sign salad in Garrett, KY looks like now.  Saw the "ice possible ahead for the next 52 miles" signage, too, on KY 80 somewhere around here (flew past it and didn't get a photo).  Should be somewhere between Martin and Hindman...but I'm not trusting my memory fully on that one.

^^ and a stop sign does not belong in the back end of an intersection.

Why not add 1-9 south and the parkway to the mix

I took that ramp in the opposite direction a few weeks ago.

I don't recall seeing that "next 52 miles" sign anywhere but I'd be willing to guess that it's somewhere back toward US 23.

I was only on US 23 between Paintsville and KY 80 (Allen, sorta)...I didn't think any terrain through there matched what I remembered (leading up a hill to a huge rock cut), although I agree it's more likely on US 23.

I'll try to see if GSV has it somewhere.

All those ads are not helping at all. Isn't there a law that disallows advertisements that could cause confusion while driving?

I mean, if we refer to the lowest common denominator of people, yeah. If you happen to have sworn off GPS for some reason, you're extremely distracted and need to find your sign amongst all those ads, it might take some time.

I actually meant that it was on KY 80 back in the direction of US 23 (which is behind you a dozen miles or so).

You might be better off looking at KYTC's roadway photo viewer.

Yes, Kentucky doesn't allow such encroachments on right of way without a permit. But crews typically only address signage on ROW a couple of times a year. They're too  busy doing other things.

At least it's not a local election year, or else there would have been a crap ton of campaign signs at that particular intersection.

The amount of shields here is hard to comprehend especially being on an interstate.
